2-Month Precip Ranks:
🏆 Great Lakes/Upper Midwest: Rank 1 across nearly all of MI, WI, IN, OH, this is literally the wettest 2 month stretch on record in many districts. Unprecedented.
🌽 IL & eastern IA: Ranks 1–8, top 6% of all years going back to 1893. Some fields are pretty soaked.
💧 MN & western WI: Ranks 2–20, exceptionally wet, planting outlook very challenging, maybe.
⚠️ NE & KS: Ranks 80–133, historically DRY. Some districts in the driest 2% of all years on record.
🔴 Southern Plains (TX/OK/KS): Ranks 120–133, near record dry over this period.
📌 Bottom line: The contrast is staggering. Eastern Corn Belt = historically wet. Western Belt & Plains = historically dry. Planting delays are baked in for the East. Subsoil moisture concerns are real in the West.
IMO, we need to watch the May weather window closely, it may define a lot about how this 2026 crop will look (wx trend).
Corn yield gains in the U.S. are no longer tied to higher plant densities. 🌽
Recent genetic progress is driven by increased yield per plant—not improved crowding tolerance—highlighting a clear decoupling between yield and plant density.

When to run bin fans??
As harvest get's up and rolling, I always get asked for this equilibrium charts for running bin fans.
Have numerous customers with automatic bin fan controls that will turn fans on/off at proper temperature/humidity to take out some of the last couple points... and even add a couple to some dry soybeans.
2025 Pioneer Sales Rep Yield Estimates!
2025 state of Iowa Average: 228.6 bu/ac
2024: 219.8 bu/ac
2023: 209.2 bu/ac
The big caveat for 2025 is will the crop be able to finish off the yield potential with the amount of disease that is present. Southern Rust in some fields will be taking a considerable amount of yield. Cooler weather the next two weeks will allow for tar spot expansion as well.
Interestingly planting date showed no trend in yield estimates. One again showing planting conditions rule when it comes to corn!
A huge thank you to all the Pioneer Sales Reps who collected 5,125 samples!
