On the Daily Show, Jacob Frey gives thanks to the people of Minneapolis and Minnesota for all they have accomplished when ICE was terrorizing their city. They showed the country that it can be done if you hold together. #DemsUnited
Scenes like this showcasing reckless violations of our constitution are all too common across our country. This out of control agency is violating our values, unjustly attacking Americans, and making our communities less safe.
Mikaela Shiffrin was asked how she feels representing the United States at the Olympics despite the political tensions in the country. The two-time gold medalist quoted Nelson Mandela as part of her answer.
The House chamber was mostly empty. I’m unsure how many will ultimately hear it.
But I spoke today to sound an alarm for our nation.
To alert the country of the wholesale corruption engulfing our government & the work we must do end it.
I hope my fellow Americans will listen.
Amid these dark moments, something important is beginning to shift.
It's clearly the result of healthy political pressure - which we must sustain, and build.
This isn’t leadership. This is blackmail.
The Department of Justice has now told Minnesota officials that they will remove ICE if they hand over their voter rolls - this is not how the law works.
We are in a fight over the very soul of our country.
They can pepper spray us, tear gas us, beat us. But no matter what, they won’t touch our souls. We will stand resolute, no matter what they do to us.
I know we will win.
Thank you to Holy Trinity United Methodist in Prior Lake for opening their doors yesterday evening for a candlelight vigil.
Together, with love and compassion, we cannot lose.

Minnesotans have made clear: they don’t want mining in the Boundary Waters.
But instead of bolstering its protections, today House leadership is forcing a rushed vote to permanently strip the Boundary Waters of its federal protections and open it up to toxic copper sulfide mining – the most toxic industry in America, which has never been done in Minnesota.
The Boundary Waters is the most visited wilderness area in the country and the crown jewel of our state.
This bill is a betrayal of Minnesotans and the American people, and a sell-out to Trump’s foreign billionaire buddies, who would extract our resources, permanently pollute our clean air and water, and leave us to foot the bill.
We must protect our precious, pristine Boundary Waters and keep our public lands where they belong: with the American people. NOT foreign billionaire mining conglomerates.
On the House floor, I called on all my colleagues to vote NO and block H.J.Res 140, the single largest threat posed to the Boundary Waters to date.
When ICE targets people—including off-duty officers as reported by Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley—for no reason other than how they look, it destroys trust, divides communities, and fails to make us safer.
Heartbreaking. A Minneapolis family driving home from their son’s basketball game in their car with six kids, including a 6-month-old, was hit by tear gas & flash-bangs from ICE agents, leaving their baby struggling to breathe and hospitalized.
This is unacceptable. ICE is making our state less safe.
