When I was Minister, Labour's Vaughan Gething asked us as UK Gov to take on Wales' gigabit rollout as Labour administration there was doing such a bad job of it. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧

Spent months negotiating a contract to cover hard-to-reach properties in Wales, plus v rural parts of England. In May, @weareopenreach were publicly named as preferred bidder. ✒️

Now Labour's Science Secretary expects people to believe this major deal was actually the work of his party all along! 🧠💡

Btw, in 2019 gigabit coverage was 6%. It's now 84%.

We got there by promoting competition and putting public money in only where the market wouldn't reach. Thanks to those hard yards, thousands more prems are set to be covered in the months ahead - a brilliant digital legacy that sets people across the country up for the future.
