Warning: Bankcard Scam Gangs Preying on Ireland’s Elderly as Gardaí Appeal to Public for Help
An Garda Síochána is seeking the public’s help to identify two men captured on CCTV after an elderly woman was tricked into handing over her bank cards and PIN numbers, resulting in more than €8,500 being stolen from her account.
The incident occurred on 2 September 2025. The victim received a text message that appeared to come from her bank, asking her to confirm whether a particular payment on her account was genuine. When she replied that it was not, she received a phone call from a person claiming to be a bank employee. While she was still on the call, a woman arrived at her door, also presenting herself as a bank representative. The woman persuaded the victim to hand over her SIM card, two bank cards, and the corresponding PIN numbers.
In the days that followed, between 2 and 5 September 2025, the cards were used extensively. One man withdrew more than €5,500 in cash from ATMs in locations including Tallaght, Ballyfermot, Dun Laoghaire, the Naas Road in Dublin, and Bray in County Wicklow. A second man used the cards to make purchases worth over €3,000 in shops across Swords, Fonthill, Carrickmines, and Naas.
The case was featured on RTÉ’s Crimecall programme on Monday May 25th.
During the broadcast, Garda Dylan Powell from Ballyfermot Garda Station appealed for information. The primary suspect seen on ATM CCTV is described as a man in his late 20s to early 30s, with black hair and a goatee, around 5ft 10in in height, and of slim build. He was seen wearing items including tracksuit bottoms, a North Face half-zip top, a grey jumper, a black Nike puffer jacket, and black Crocs on different occasions.
The second suspect, captured making purchases in shops, is described as a man in his early 20s with short fair or red hair, also around 5ft 10in tall and of slim build. He was wearing a Tommy Hilfiger jacket and black tracksuit bottoms.
Gardaí have noted that the official descriptions provided during the appeal did not reference skin colour or ethnicity, despite the CCTV footage being shown on air. This has prompted public discussion about the level of detail included in such appeals.
Anyone who recognises the men, has information about the use of the cards during that period, or knows who may have been in possession of them is urged to contact Crimecall on 1800 40 50 60 or Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 666 7200. Information can be provided anonymously.
We have enhanced the imagery slightly to support identification.
The investigation remains ongoing.

🇱🇧🇮🇱 BREAKING: Israel has just destroyed the hospital in Tebnine, southern Lebanon with a direct airstrike.
Several children dead. Legacy media is silent.
This is outrageous.
Just after Trump announced his sham ceasefire, Israel bombed an ambulance workers funeral in South Lebanon.
Channel 4 News was there and captured everything.
Israel does NOT want peace. It wants to keep committing genocide and stealing other people’s land.
Mystery solved! Turns out the “lion” spotted roaming Clare was just a Newfoundland dog with a fresh haircut!
Gardaí from Killaloe have concluded that the recent video of a “lion like” animal roaming around the woods in East Clare is in fact the very friendly dog named ‘Mouse’.
Their crimes live streamed.
After hitting a hospital with a drone (a war crime) you can clearly see medics and journalists at the scene.
They then hit them with an air-strike murdering 15.
Evil beyond comprehension - israel must be isolated/dismantled
A lovely profile piece on Cara Martin, her rugby journey & never wavering commitment to the game we all love.

Philip Dwyer was livestreaming from Drogheda today. As the 'Drogheda says No' bigots were having their bigotfest. He got more than he bargained for when he came across this absolute legend. Very well said sir. Free pints deserved after those truth bombs ✊❤️
Palestinian journalist Ahmed Alnaouq confronted the BBC at a meeting held after a media watchdog found the BBC was "systematically biased" against Palestinians in its coverage of Israel's war on Gaza.
Turning to BBC's news director, Alnaouq asked "How do you sleep at night?"

We need to do everything we can do to stop this genocide.
In Ireland, this means:
🚨Stop Central Bank authorisation of Israeli 'War Bonds'
🚨Stop overflights carrying weapons to commit genocide
🚨Enact the full Occupied Territories Bill (goods and services) & sanction Israel
