I'm so excited to share the launch of a new collaboration between @Cmmonwealth & @cplusci :Transition Security Project. TSP will be a home for research, analysis, and new policy thinking at the intersection of climate, economy, & the military industries of the US and UK🧵
“Reliance on fossil fuels ... is a security risk to countries, populations and economies. Only by transitioning to renewables can you remove that risk.”
@patrickmbigger speaks to @7ampodcast on the environmental costs of the US-Israeli war on Iran.

Great story overall on @cplusci's new Working Class Climate Agenda, w loads of great quotes from @patrickmbigger.
And quotes from Third Way calling us "Biden on steroids"—a disturbing image & exact opposite of what we're doing. Always be lazy, Third Way!

This is the rotten heart of European strategy.
Rather than accelerate the green transition, Germany partners with a genocidal state to convert civilian industries to war production.

“Instead of clinging on to a broken transatlantic partnership, Europe needs to develop an independent foreign policy based on international solidarity, restraint and climate collaboration.”

During last night's SOTU, we heard that Dems and the "Green New Scam" are making working people's lives worse. But Trump's plans and promises are *actually* what's making life more expensive and more dangerous. Here are three reasons why:👇
“Returning Venezuelan oil production to 1990s peak levels would result in five hundred million tons of annual carbon dioxide emissions... higher than the emissions of France, or the UK”.

Workers suffer when governments prioritize war over the general welfare. Biden-Harris prioritized militarism, leading to electoral disaster for Democrats in 2024.
For @TransitionSec, I argue for a political agenda centered on working-class security.
The Pentagon’s planned cobalt stockpile “could be used instead to produce 80.2 gigawatt hours of battery capacity — more than double the existing energy storage capacity in the US”.
Our research manager Lorah Steichen wrote for the @FT.

Two quick thoughts on the NSS.
1) US is dead serious about coercing allies to abandon climate commitments and swallow US fossil exports. "Climate realism" lives in Trumpworld as use of non-fossil energy is equated with "subsidizing our adversaries".

NEW: The Pentagon’s Cold War-era stockpiling threatens the supply of minerals needed for the energy transition.
Our analysis shows the Pentagon’s planned cobalt stockpile would be enough to more than double existing energy storage capacity in the US.

New work by my colleague Lorah Steichen shows how the pentagon is stockpiling the raw materials needed for green industrialization and hoarding them for imperial war making in places like Venezuela. The US *should* be stockpiling these materials, but for socially productive ends.
The global arms race is undermining climate action as critical minerals needed for the green transition are diverted.

Our Co-Director @KhemRogaly spoke to @SkyNews today about British war crimes in Afghanistan.
We need accountability for these crimes, but also a new foreign policy that ends the UK’s support for brutal US-led wars overseas.

Our tech and energy systems being transformed. But how and in whose interests?
Read @IliasAlami’s “Imperial State Capitalism” to understand how the development of AI & the energy transition are being shaped by profiteering & geopolitical competition.

Kudos to the people of Ecuador, who voted down a referendum to host the US military again after it was kicked out in 2008. Maybe makes it a little harder for the US to launch a monstrous war on Venezuela too.
