@NathanBransford One of my proudest moments as an editor: not a novel but a 90,000-word business report, i.e. as long as a novel.
When published, it was 72,000 words. The author said, "I'm sure it was a lot longer but I can't see what you've cut out."

@misanthropeyrk @blablafishcakes Leave the poor boy alone. When he grows up he'll realise that blurting the rude words he's just learnt isn't a badge of manhood.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@harbourexpert @BBCNews It's almost as if they want to play down riots by people they approve of.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

Why does @BBCNews constantly describe the French riots as "mostly peaceful"?
When only 500 of 50,000 fans invaded the pitch, was the match "mostly peaceful"? On most days of WWI, the Western Front was "mostly peaceful".
There's clearly an agenda here, but what is it?

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@LifePointsPanel How do I complain about a broken survey? I was on the final questions of a TfL survey and the last page was a broken link.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@BubbaZanetti9 @heathbohm @HodsonAnn @DizzyLizzi80631 @CrunchAlias @ItsKaSyl Official statistics are "a biased substack" because someone made a graphic out of them.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

Surveys often ask whether a service "Exceeds my expectations". So, if you expect excellence and get it, the only rational answer is "Strongly disagree". I suspect they'll view that as a negative when it isn't.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

Financial institutions seem to think the biggest threat to my online security is a stranger wandering into my bedroom while I'm making a coffee and accessing my computer. Why else would @santanderuk log me out after 5 minutes? And @HLInvest has got on the same bandwagon.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@TiceRichard If you can weaken the Tories enough, you'll succeed in making our next government a Labour-Green coalition. Is that really the plan?

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@blablafishcakes Aren't all cupboards stationary?

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@prodnose Don't weep for their players either. They knew what City was when they joined (we all did). The only way they can claw back any respect is to put in a transfer request for January.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@MENnewsdesk Good to know there used to be a pub in East Manchester. I'd have pondered this over my English breakfast on my recent visit, only there don't seem to be any cafes either. It's almost as if the new owners disapprove of alcohol and bacon.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@NatYandura @CrunchAlias Trans women are still men no matter how much you kick and scream about it.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@BBCLondonNews I refused to answer my PCN and was ready to go to court. They never pursued it.
TfL insisted it was all about safety risks from flooding, so why weren't the cameras switched off when the road was dry?
Simple: "safety" was only ever a pretext for raising money, i.e. a scam.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

Trying to reactivate a seller account on @AmazonUK. I'm on my eighth "One Time Password" and still no luck.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@spikedonline In 15+ years of reading Spiked, I've never read anything so muddled and wrong that it wouldn't have looked out of place in The Guardian or Metro.

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@JammersMinde "It's very small numbers."
It's also very small numbers of serving police officers who kidnap and murder women, so why all the fuss about Sarah Everard?

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@nspec2a @NJ_Timothy "Jewish slave traders"? Are you sure about that?

[Patrick Neylan @PatrickNeylan]

@StevenScrase @RobertJenrick The pre-Windrush English were ethnically distinct from the Welsh, Scots, Irish, Cornish and Cumbrians long before the Anglo-Saxons arrived. England was populated from the Balkans after the last Ice Age. The ancestors of the Celtic fringe came from northern Spain.
