In 1997, a developer publicly humiliated Steve Jobs in front of a packed room.
Jobs had just returned to Apple after 11 years away. Instead of fighting back, he admitted the guy was partly right — then explained the principle he believed could turn Apple into an $8–10 billion-a-year business.
And his answer had almost nothing to do with technology.
Most companies, Jobs explained, work backwards. They build something technically impressive, fall in love with what they created, and only then ask how they are going to sell it.
He had made that mistake himself so many times that he said he had the “scar tissue” to prove it.
His rule was the opposite: start with the customer experience and work backwards to the technology.
Jobs used the LaserWriter as an example. Inside the printer were a Canon laser engine, an Apple-designed controller, Adobe PostScript and AppleTalk. It was an extraordinary piece of engineering, but none of that was the reason he believed people would buy it.
When the first page came out, Jobs looked at it and realized they didn't need to explain what was inside the machine. They could simply hold up the result and ask one question:
Do you want this?
That was the entire point.
Customers don't pay you for how difficult your product was to build. They pay for what it does for them.
A developer tried to expose what Steve Jobs didn't know about technology.
Jobs responded by explaining something far more valuable about business.
I interviewed Jonathan, Game Director on Path of Exile 2 for ~1h during #gamescom
Here is my summary about the details he shared and what's next. Some notes here, full video on my channel (too long for X unfortunately)
Duelist
- lots of combo playstyles intended
- both simple and sophisticated builds should be successful
- stance dance can be achieved via skill use in early game
- also via support gems, uniques, frenzy charges later for more fluid playstyle
Melee viability
- it's a concern
- forced attack time getting removed from most/all skills, enabling full Attack Speed scaling
Div cards
- general idea the same
- will help SSF players a lot
- has too much bloat in PoE 1
- will look different in PoE 2 but not 100% decided how
- potentially not coming in 1.0 (I think)
Skill/Support Gems design
- Druid is the template going forward
- rework of existing gems to fit that style
Uniques
- recent uniques are the template for new designs (impactful choices, offering unique skills, etc.)
- old uniques had PoE 1 philosophies that are getting updated to fit the same style & improve viability
Endgame mapping
- full control over map layout not happening
- perhaps stuff like terraforming of biomes
- long-term atlas updates are planned
PoE 1
- new PoE 2 tech is slowly getting introduced to PoE 1
- e.g. techs like pause feature, later character rigs/animations and more
The wait is almost over. Path of Exile 2 fully releases on December 11 PST.
Ready your swords, Exile. Your greatest battle is about to begin. ⚔️

We're putting the finishing touches on our gamescom reveal.
When gamescom opens go hands-on at Hall 06.1, Booth B031 to see what we've been working on!
Salve. Assista. Compartilhe.
We've got an update on two of the biggest technical issues affecting Path of Exile 2. After extensive investigation and optimisation, we have fixes to both long-standing shader loading issues and "Device Removed" crashes.
Check out the video here!
Sooo, Darth Microtransaction is in New Zealand and visiting GGG HQ. This is all speculation, and DM himself knows NOTHING of what they'll show/he'll be able to show the Path of Exile 2 community, but I'd reckon they wouldn't offer the trip IF they weren't going to give one of the biggest PoE2 dudes some juicy content to explore or highlight.
So, sound off exiles, what might DM get a chance to see/play, aside from the cool behind the scenes stuff he's doing (sound team, perhaps Kamil/Michael/etc)?
I mean, when he originally skyrocketed with D4, wasn't he a Druid main?
😉
