Each February 13th for the past five decades, under the cover of darkness, Valentine's Day Bandits hang hundreds of red hearts across Portland, spreading love and warmth in the depths of Maine winters.

The valentine's heart, and the bandits who hang them, have become a tradition and symbol synonymous with the city of Portland. In many corners of the city and state, the hearts hang year round — a reminder that somebody cares about you, that you matter, and that you are loved.
