I had an interesting conversation with Evan on his podcast Giant's Shoulder, talking about conscious and unconscious mental processes, fish consciousness, and the hypothesis that aphantasia is unconscious imagery.
It’s not too late to apply for the PhD position in my lab! Please send your documents (cover letter, CV, transcripts, names of references) through the official application platform by Nov 25!
DecNef is a powerful tool for brain modulation but remains hard to optimize; we built a simulation framework using “virtual subjs” as ML generative models to prototype protocols before exps, & showed conditions in which DecNef fails to induce learning

1/Preprint Alert🔔: Across two experiments plus a computational model, we show the visual system compresses complex scenes into summary statistics that can guide behavior without conscious access to the task-defining features. We term this the Ensemble Blindsight effect.
Finally, huge thanks to @PietroAmerio for outstanding modeling work, and to the incomparable @d_soto_b for his mentorship throughout this project and my PhD.
