@scottklusendorf Your 50+ years of pragmatic political calculations haven't gotten us any closer to ending the bloodshed. You're not wise enough to strategize around what God has commanded. We need to obey Him and risk the consequences.
@LarryTaunton You might as well have. God lays out many criminal justice principles in the Mosaic law that we would do well to heed - forms of punishment, admissibility of evidence, dealing with perjury, appeals process...I can't consider them simply because they were part of Israel's law?
@ProvisionistP@thechurchsplit@grok Not saying it's wrong to search out empirical data but why isn't God's opinion on the issue your primary consideration?
@MarianKamensky1 What if we just dressed Nadal up as a defenseless nursing student and had an illegal immigrant murder him in a Democrat-run cityβ¦then would you be ok with it?
@AbbyJohnson@howertonjosh@bradleypierce Then why do popes rarely even reference scripture when speaking on moral issues? To whatever extent the Catholic church once revered scripture, it has now become secondary to layer upon layer of calcified church tradition, to the point where it's practically irrelevant.
99.9% of humans who ever lived would look at our criminal justice system and be horrified. You mean there is zero doubt to his guilt and it has been 17 years since the crime. You're finally getting around to execution and it's controversial? He should have been dead within a week of the crime
@TradBob26 You don't need to sell me on Scripture supporting the death penalty. I've referenced Romans 13 repeatedly over the last two days.
Why would I think the pope is God? I'm not Catholic, hence the "you guys" in my post
Genesis is not a theological appendix Christians can rewrite without affecting anything else.
The New Testament repeatedly builds on the history Genesis records.
Paul contrasts Adam and Christ. Sin and death enter through the first man, and redemption and resurrection come through Christ.
That means Adam, the Fall, sin, death, and the Gospel are not isolated doctrines sitting in separate boxes.
They are connected.
This is why the creation debate is about much more than calculating the age of rocks. It ultimately asks whether the biblical storyline holds together from Genesis to Revelation.
