Profitability landscapes for photovoltaic self-consumption reveal the value of demand flexibility in terms of the PV system cost.
They answer the Q: how much more can I invest for each pp ↑ in self-consumption?

PD:
- we provide profitability landscapes for all countries and residential and industrial segments and the code and data to replicate or calculate anything else (https://t.co/xsB8VMalXD).
- I will post a more detailed explainer on my website https://t.co/xYXJiL1otO soon.

3. Storage is very valuable to achieve positive profitability but suffers diminishing marginal returns as PVSC profitability increases, and is more valuable for residential prosumers due to the larger spread between wholesale and retail prices.
4/5
2. Profitability landscapes give a comprehensive view of potential PVSC profitability depending on the 2 elements that prosumers can influence: system cost and self-consumption share. This trade-off (the slope of the IRR) reveals the value of storage/demand flexibility.
3/5
1. Competitive (i.e. cost-reflective) retail tariffs (with the currently internalized external costs) would provide positive returns in most European countries for both the residential and industrial sectors, except for countries with low insolation or internalization.

New pub! ☀️ We
1. Evaluate the effect of a competitive retail tariff on PV self-consumption (PVSC) profitability
2. Introduce the concept of profitability landscape
3. Quantify the value of demand flexibility for prosumers
