@NiceUrmston@YPLAC@gmptraffic This roundabout needs seriously reworking. You shouldn't be able to park on a roundabaout. And why is there a bus stop on it too? Never seen anything like it anywhere else.
Net-zero CO₂ by 2050 is possible if:
-8,500 coal plants stop burning coal.
-we stop heating homes.
-we stop driving the 1.4 billion cars in the world.
-planes stop flying 100,000 times a day.
-we stop eating tens of billions of animals per year.
-we stop shipping stuff.
If you don’t understand thermal inertia and why the oceans have been protecting us from the massive amounts of heat entering the system - then you need to look at the difference between heating water and air. It takes a hell of a lot more energy to heat water!
A parable of HS2 from Andy Haldane, formerly of the Bank of England and now FT contributing editor. A sharp critique of short-termism in this oped https://t.co/zc8Z4OR0qc
All of Rishi Sunak's £36bn transport plans don't start till 2029.
His BS education doesn't start till 2033.
Smoking ban 2028.
We are wasting time talking about stuff that he will never do.
Don't feed his lies, see them.
RT if you do.
Sunak didn’t just cancel HS2…
He authorised the sale of the land that would form part of the cancelled route
So no other leader could reverse his decision.
This major decision
One he took unilaterally
Without consulting parliament
…without anyone having voted for him.
My absolute favourite part of the new Network North document - which is almost insulting in the way it tries to convince northerners they haven’t been shafted by HS2 cancellation - is the part where they promise…
To fix potholes in the South of England.
Does feel sort of mad that a Prime Minister who wasn't even a full ranking cabinet minister at the time of the 2019 election & is 20 points behind in the polls just gets to cancel the country's largest infrastructure project, which his party's manifesto committed to completing
Just a reminder, the Govts own analysis showed an integrated HS2 and NPR would:
- Add £9bn to GMs economy each year
- Add £24bn a year to the Norths economy
- Create 96,000 jobs
- Improve capacity and connectivity
- Close the productivity gap with London
Levelling up is dead.
It’s coming up 10 years since Osborne’s “Northern Powerhouse” speech and the Tories are set to scrap the last of his rail pledges.
The result?
The southern half of England gets a modern rail system and the North left with Victorian infrastructure.
Levelling up?
My a**e.

The summers you used to know are over. These types of Omega domes will become commonplace on a yearly basis bringing sweltering heatwaves and devastating floods across the Globe.
