On Japan
Up in the Mountains
I know this song from living in Showa.
What is Showa?
Well it’s probably not spelled like that for starters.
In Japan the years are marked by the emperor’s name and then the year of their reign. This continues until now. So like in America your child could be born in Obama 7
I digress…..
This song is the sentimental soundtrack to my life in Japan
I became familiar with it from hearing it in the background and I eventually sought it out
I adore this song
It captures the feeling of my life in the Inaka. I can see an old kei truck with a Bachan driving it
Taste an Itoen green tea and karage ball on a stick from the 7 when I hear this
I can feel your melancholia. Yes you dear reader. If you read this far there is a fair chance you are a foreign resident. It’s going to be ok
Japan is timeless
Japan does not exist
