There is a NHS workforce crisis. What bothers me most about the 2 week appointment target is the negative effect it will have on staff that we’re already on the brink of leaving. This strategy demonstrates a very poor grasp of the issues. @Commodore_Bob @Devon_LMC @drmattbest
You could not be more wrong if you tried @TomTugendhat
Under your government this country has seen over 2,000 GP practice contracts close and thousands more GPs be forced out of NHS roles
This is your government’s legacy
Do not try to score points over the woeful status quo
I spent time with some awesome newly qualified GP Fellows yesterday
If you’re a newly qualified GP, or recent-ish CCT & job hunting, do you want a practice role or a PCN role like ARRS?
(I know what I’d advise, & what I’d choose - but I want to check…)
@m_ratwatte @bma_gp
Our GPC England Team will be coming to a town near you to talk about the non-statutory ballot for GP contractors/partners.
Make sure you sign up to your local roadshow and get the answers you seek. https://t.co/5SwScw6Udf #TakeActionSaveGeneralPractice
The BMA welcomes the College’s support for suspending the recruitment of PAs until there is more known about the impact their role has on patient safety, medical training and medical recruitment. (1/2)
A rare occurrence where @NHSEngland board has any focus on GP services. @AmandaPritchard - you can & must do better on behalf of our 6,400 practices. 👇
Today I’m writing to @amandadoylegp to outline that we are now in dispute

The National Audit Office has had a look at the NHSE Long Term Workforce Plan.
The NHS equals the people who work in it. Its critiques are telling for the direction of General Practice. 🧵

We are extremely disappointed @AoMRC has excluded @TheBMA from a meeting to discuss MAPs and doctors in training despite the inclusion of other key stakeholders including @NHSEngland, @gmcuk and ATDC. [1/3]
***** BREAKING NEWS ****
GPs in England have overwhelmingly rejected the govt contract offer. ‘Do you accept the contract’
YES 0.8%
NO 99.2%
Turnout 61.2%
Over 2500 GPs joined @TheBMA in just 5 weeks. Incredible. Thank you. The committee is meeting now to discuss next steps
Public satisfaction with the NHS is at a record low - so what’s it like working in it currently?
As a doctor with nearly 17 years experience working in the NHS (12 of those as a GP) I’ve never known it to be so good 😊
If by “good” I mean an absolute bin-fire of course ☹️

St James Medical Centre in Taunton are seeking a Salaried GP.
It's in the heart of Taunton where you’ll find excellent schools, superfast links to London & Bristol, fine dining eateries, theatres, country pubs, and loads of beaches not far away... (1/2)
Between March 2022 and March 2023, 10.5% of GPs aged under-40 left the profession.
This is a record high. We cannot afford a repeat in 2024 or years to come.
We need an urgent solution to the GP workforce crisis from Government.

😢
Can the last GP partner turn out the light?
The 2% uplift makes GP untenable. This year, many practices will be laying off staff.
They’ll struggle on, and as time passes it’ll be too much. Contracts back.
@doctor_katie and @BMA_GP we will fight with you as long as we can
To every patient in England. Your local GP surgery could soon disappear.
That’s because of a clear govt decision to underfund & neglect us.
You can see how hard it is now to get an NHS dentist - that’s just round the corner for you due to your politicians actions. Scary
Please read this from my colleague @doctor_katie@BMA_GP -this is such a serious situation now & the reality of NHS gen practice disappearing from your community is a reality. It’s almost as if this govt wants to see your local NHS GP surgery close down….once it’s gone it’s gone
The @Conservatives, @DHSCgovuk & @NHSEngland have decided, rather than being the ‘stepping stone’ year to signal safety, stability, and hope - 2024 will instead signal reduced patient access to GP services as well as likely closures of GP practices across the country.

A word of caution here, folks:
👉1.9% = a disgrace
👉to match 2019/20 we need 8.7% putting this derisory offer into context
👉#FPR for salariedGPs ~ c£450m
👉Total practice income/patient has ⬆️ by only £15 in a decade -
Yes! *£15*
Nice words won’t save General Practice

‼️Total NHSE deficit for 23/24?
Estimate: £1.5 BILLION
⚖️Total GP deficit for 23/24?
👉£0
❤️🩹 The hidden cost is human
