Pre-reformation Christians regarded the first bishops of Rome (Peter, Linus, Cletus etc) as the first popes, as do Catholics today.

@BigWave372 That is false. The Vatican has said no papal visit is scheduled for 2026. The Vatican traditionally avoids scheduling papal visits close to elections. Trump should be happy. A visit before the mid-terms would only turn off more of his conservative Catholic supporters.
