At bottom, I just don’t think the podcast truly reckoned with the fact that there would be no ground troops and just continued to whistle past the graveyard of that fact.
And, in full fairness to Trump, that wasn’t a decision he could have made if he wanted to. Americans just wouldn’t have accepted a ground war in Iran without a much stronger casus belli.
This was always going to be just a bombing campaign, and there is a very narrow set ofthings that a bombing campaign can hope to accomplish.
I want to say this with as much respect as I can, because I’m a huge fan of the podcast, as a dyed in the wool neocon for over 20 years:
the tone of the podcast when the war started was gleeful and adulatory. In one episode, Christine was dumbfounded while you said that it was very possible to end with Trump walking the streets of a liberated Tehran.
In another episode, you said that it was idiotic to accuse the administration of not planning for a closure of the strait of Hormuz, because it was so elementary. It is now clear that Trump’s administration did not plan for it.
I’m a subscriber and a fan. I do think there needs to be some introspection on Commentary’s part about Trump’s competence and reliability as an implementer of your preferred policy. The nevertrumpers at the Bulwark and Dispatch (not the same, I know) have been right the whole time.
@King_Will_Power@ArmandDoma@WillieCaine “It’s simply a matter of whether you trust the police or not,” is moronic. All investigative tools have to balance state interest vs. right to privacy.
@King_Will_Power@ArmandDoma@WillieCaine Simple question, yes or no: do you think a suspect with a kidnapped child driving an unregistered vehicle should be allowed to flee the state freely because Flock could be potentially used for corrupt purposes?
@King_Will_Power@ArmandDoma@WillieCaine Police can abuse simple, noncontroversial records systems for the same reasons. They are and ought to be fired when they do.
@WASPmexicano@LordTemplar1@IVMiles What’s funny about these “my life for the volk” guys is their ethos makes more sense in any other country but this one. They know there aren’t enough WASPs to make a serious ethnic claim on those grounds…
@WASPmexicano The one admirable trait Fuentes has is his contempt for his fans, which occasionally causes him to make accurate/reasonable observations out of spite.
@WASPmexicano There’s a good clip of Nick Fuentes of all people making fun of one of his viewers who was trying to make this case for “muscular Christianity,” and he goes, “yeah the New Testament is all about eating raw eggs and getting jacked.”
