@AimN This is all so interesting, and true. It reminds me of a subreddit called “Instagram Reality” which shows how people photoshop themselves in their Insta photos. This is maybe a version of that. Still, all of us are trying to make compelling content to get views. 🤷♂️
@evanmarien Sometimes I have a hard time believing in the music I want to create. I think “Is this really any good?” Then I see this video and realize that this guy believed in this song enough to write it, record it, and make this video for it. In THIS SONG. Or should I say, this “song”.
@lukethering@lukethering This is still one of the most amazing things I’ve seen! It’s incredible to me how you added this accompaniment / counterpoint to my solo. I’ll never get tired of it.
@jmuscara@TheJazzWorkshop Well. I already had all but two of these on the wall in frames. Generally I’ve found these in used record shops over the years. I had to order “The Real McCoy” and “Cool Struttin” from the Blue Note website. $25 each. So yes, a little pricey I guess you’d say.
@ethan_iverson These 12 records you highlighted in your recent article are now on the wall at @TheJazzWorkshop (my studio where I teach near Washington DC).
I put up the article too.
It’s a great list and very helpful. Thanks for putting it together!
TRON came out when I was 10 and made a big impression on me, not only for the stunning visuals but for the incredible music by composer Wendy Carlos.
Here’s my take on one of those pieces - the “Tron Scherzo”, for four guitars and bass.

Chipotle, cocoa powder, corn meal (!), cumin, oregano, salt, chili pepper flakes. It’s like they scanned my brain and made my perfect spice blend. Got this at Costco. 😍😍😍
A little nervous to share this, but I invented a new mode today: Mixolydian raise 7. Taking the traditionally lowered seventh scale degree up a semitone really gives it a fascinating, uncanny sound. I think this could be big!
@AimN Interesting observation re: metal instruments. On the flip side, I remember reading that Charles Lloyd went through a period where he was disenchanted with saxophone. He told Charlie Haden “You play a real instrument, a WOODEN instrument.” He called the sax “the trash can”. 😂
