Today's Mail reports that the Government is considering a stamp duty exemption for older people downsizing to help free up properties for younger people. This makes sense, particularly if the exemption was for people moving into a retirement community https://t.co/SrLYvB83Ag
My PW column suggests failure of Sadiq Khan to hit affordable housing targets is linked to his reluctance to sup with developers, and Lord Kerslake’s plan for a City Hall Development boss will just add another bureaucrat holding a shoelace for a whip. https://t.co/mhE5CseXXe
Comment: The inability of Khan to meet affordable housing targets may just about to get harder. Add in 7-10% construction inflation and 0% price rises into development appraisals and it starts to make schemes planned over the next year or so unviable. Watch for mothballing.
