The forebears of a particular class of people belonging to a particular political party have drawn a blood covenant to undermine the name of Nkrumah, through calculated falsehoods.
This is an act of revenge since their ancestors were defeated in numerous elections due to the social & ideological superiority of the CPP.
By understanding the pain, you may understand their motives.
Nkrumah’s political ideology underwent grave pragmatic shifts in 1964, undermining his principled positions in a manner inconsistent with the belief that the people would ultimately understand the utility of an idea & universally defend those who birthed it.
The excessive preoccupation with local treasonous elements, attacks by the domestic puppets of imperialism & the economic manipulations from Washington rendered him more pragmatic than principled.
As a result, his post-1963 era of governance presented an uneasy tension between his ideas & political practices—an antimony of a sort.
His political policies became increasingly overbearing in a totalistic manner that may inform a fair judgment of dictatorial tendencies.
To be judged to have dictatorial sentiments is not to be judged as being a dictator.
Before his political end in 1966, Nkrumah was not a dictator. He may fairly be judged to have exhibited dictatorial tendencies & shown the sentiments post 1963.
I have stayed away from the Nkrumah debate only because I do not have the time to engage in the back-and-forth.
Ordinarily, I would have established a watchtower here to counter most of the nonsensical claims.
One being that a one-party state is necessarily undemocratic & dictatorial.
Those with any knowledge of classical democracy & democracy in general before the 17th century know that multi-partism was a modern Western mode of democratic expression.
Its non-existence doesn't render the system undemocratic.
Traditional modes of primary political participation in Ghanaian, Greek, and Roman societies were not partisan but democratic.
Consensual participation can permit democratic expression through elections & appointments by a one-party node.
Unless the one party is a closed book based on class, gender, or ethnicity, being the main mode of political participation doesn't render the system undemocratic.
In a society where political theory is rarely applied, such simplistic comments were not surprising to find, so finding them didn't come as a shock.
According to Robert Dahl (see his book, “On Democracy”), the logic of equality, if sustained, renders a system democratic. From 1964-66, the logic of equality was kept in national politics.
Although a one-party system reduces the window of participation and representation, it doesn't eliminate it.
Although equality of political speech & discourse is more expansive in a multi-party system, which makes it qualitatively superior to one-party democracy (See David Held, Models of Democracy), that qualitative difference is only of degree, not form.
@KayTee_Lepara Not a car for daily use if you move a lot, maintenance will depend on usage but reliability I haven’t seen a lot of complaints, just don’t move it like a sports car. It’s a luxury sedan.
