Recess and physical activity play a crucial role in developing executive functioning skills, such as self-regulation, impulse control, and emotional management. When students are given time to move, play, and interact, they strengthen these essential skills, which help them manage their emotions and behavior in the classroom. By prioritizing recess in elementary grades, schools can promote a more balanced, self-regulated, and focused learning environment.
