🛣️30th May: Shivani Khurana & Pavan Kumar from Raahgiri spoke on a panel for the 1st #VisionZero Summit in Bhopal.
They spoke about past road redesign projects, methods, & future steps.
As a result of our interventions there was a 12.7% decrease in pedestrian deaths in 1 year.
🧵 At Hero Honda Chowk, there was a high number of vehicles driving on the opposite side of the road in order to reach an intersection + avoid a 6km long detour.
By dividing the lanes of opposite flowing traffic, we reduced the number of head-on collisions from occurring. (3/4)
🧵We will be adding #pedestrian paths to IFFCO Chowk.
Before the trials, there was haphazard pedestrian movement combined with high speed traffic, causing unsafe road conditions. By creating designated walkways, we segregated vehicle and pedestrian movement. (2/4)
📢Progress report:
We have been working closely with the @OfficialGMDA and @nishantyadavIAS to understand why Hero Honda Chowk and IFFCO Chowk have jams and how we can help resolve them.
Over the next 6 months, we will be making several changes:🧵(1/4)

Appreciate @OfficialGMDA put on hold widening of Galleria roads for #G20India2023 to seek a design that meets G20 goal of Lifestyle4Environment #LiFE. City streets are not highways. Must preserve green belt, prioritize pedn, cycle paths and Xings. @DC_Gurugram@cmohry@amitabhk87
Golf Course Road is said to be one the best-built roadways in the millennium city of #Gurugram. 🛣️
But the entire roadway on either side leaves absolutely no space for #cyclists, despite thousands travelling through this area every single day.
How can we justify this?
Say no to footpaths as parking spots.
Support our 'Be Street Smart' campaign, and pledge to put pedestrian safety first. Let's redefine the term and make our streets safer for all during #NationalRoadSafetyWeek.

Developments at IFFCO Chowk have been undertaken.
3 new traffic signals installed to control flow of traffic. Pedestrian zebra crossings have been painted at signals. Major improvements have been made in traffic management and safety of pedestrians & cyclists.
@DC_Gurugram@dcptrafficggm this is a great start and we need to do more of these in the city , as large part of our Gurugram residents walk or cycle @nitin_gadkari !! 🇮🇳

Creating inclusive streets 🚴♀️ 🚌 🌳 🚶♂️
Golf Course Road in #Gurugram consists of 2 six lane roadways on either side of a divider with almost no #pedestrian or #cyclist infrastructure.
This depiction shows how it can be made #inclusive for all road users!
