In a 2021 interview with The Times, Jeremy Clarkson openly stated that “avoiding inheritance tax was the critical thing” in his decision to purchase farmland and start Diddly Squat Farm.

He explained that while he later became genuinely interested in farming, the original motivation was financial — specifically to mitigate inheritance tax (IHT), which can claim up to 40% of an estate’s value. Farmland and agricultural businesses can qualify for Agricultural Property Relief (APR) or Business Property Relief (BPR), significantly reducing or even eliminating IHT liabilities if certain conditions are met.

I only state facts:
In a 2009 newspaper column and again in 2021, Clarkson wrote that buying farmland was "a better investment than any bank can offer" and explicitly stated that "The government doesn't get any of my money when I die" and that avoiding inheritance tax was "the critical thing" in his decision.
