@totoriscreens@KVanValkenburg Until very recently very few women outyside North America played soccer growing up. Despite the sports popularity worldwide few had even seen a women's match until 2016 when mass media companies started covering it.
@volatrader@giulio_mattioli No, American sports fans, including leftists and African Americans, have been talking this way about football and ice hockey as long as I can remember - the 1980s & probably before then.
@RuinsMan So many goals from headers off crosses and even a fair number of long distance shots that it reminds me a bit of English/German football decades ago. Try-hards & 'experts' like to denigrate this as outdated & unsophisticated yet it seems to work & fans love it.
@pegobry_en My elderly parents aunts/uncles were all raised with Fahrenheit in UK but today prefer Celsius. I was raised with both & now prefer C. I've never encountered someone raised with C who moves to the US & switches to F. C=less specific, but more intuitive to everyday life.
@Proxy_Tank@petespiliakos High school is way too late to take up soccer if you want a career in it as the skillset requires you to be playing from about 6 yrs old at the latest.
Cofnas, Hanania, Karlin and the whole high-human capital crowd could not have predicted that one of the worst fumbles in World Cup history would be committed by a Harvard economics graduate. But you and I could have predicted it.
@eugyppius1 It's been a revealing year. I've wondered a few times if American shitlibs turned into the psychotic anti-white freaks they are due to being around these Red State blowhards every day.
@FischerKing64 "The American team made it to the knockout stage for the first time - promptly lost to Brazil"
In 94 it took a late goal for Brazil, the eventual champions, to beat that US team. Despite not having the talent or experience that US team played with far more heart than tonight.
@Ajprellerbrnr@Jwiesel13 Not just Messi...Maradona, George Best, Pele, Iniesta...a lot of the best players of all time were small. Being tall is mostly only good for headers as few of the greats have been tall. NBA skills don't really translate well to other sports. Most NFLers are too bulky.
@ScottMGreer There is a long history of a subset of Irish Americans being pro-Mexican. Maybe it's a Catholic thing or a general sympathy with the so-called Third World against Anglos.
@Prominent_Bryan Lots of long distance goals & headers from crosses at this World Cup. Hopefully this will mark the end of tedious Spanish-style 1000 short passes to nowhere football.
