Blunders per game barely drop with rating (18.9 β 17.8, 400 to 1700). What changes: WHEN the first one happens β move 16 vs. move 30.

LPDO: Loose Pieces Drop Off.
Before every move, scan the board for pieces nobody defends, yours and theirs.
An undefended piece is the easiest target for a fork, a pin or a discovered attack. Find their loose pieces, guard your own.
βοΈ Chess: every decision has an opportunity cost.
Every move means giving something else up.
The best move isn't always the fastest reward. It's the one that creates the strongest future position.

A rook on the 7th rank changes everything.
It cuts the king off the back rank, hits the pawns from behind, and turns a quiet endgame into a win.
Keep their rook off your 2nd. Put yours on their 7th when you can.
Discovered attack: one piece moves, the one behind it suddenly hits.
Here the knight sits on the e file in front of the rook. Step the knight aside (with check if you can) and the rook stares at the black king.
Scan for batteries every turn.

Feeling squeezed? Don't only defend. Counterattack.
Top players hit back under pressure instead of sitting tight. A clean break forces them to solve problems while you stay active.
Queen sac for a back rank mate.
Black's king is boxed by its own pawns. White plays Qe8+. The rook must take, then Rxe8 is mate on the soft back rank.
When the back rank is soft, give up the queen if your rook finishes the job.
TIME IS A CURRENCY YOU CANNOT REFILL.
In chess, every second matters.
Lose material, recover.
Clock hits zero: game over.

Got more pawns on one side? That is a passed pawn waiting to happen.
Here White has 3 vs 2 on the queenside. Push the c pawn first, the one with no enemy pawn in front of it. Then b4 and a4 back it up.
Roll the majority forward. Sitting still lets them defend.
Tempted by a free pawn?
Pause. Taking it can walk straight into mate.
A hanging pawn can look free, but grabbing it sometimes opens a mate on f7.
Before you capture, ask: what does their next check look like?
Ladder mate with two rooks: one rook cuts off a rank, the other checks one rank higher. Then they swap jobs.
Here: Rb5+ Kf6, Ra6+ Ke7, Rb7+ Kd8, Ra8#
Keep the rooks far from the enemy king. If it gets close, slide them to the other side first.
In chess, you don't win by capturing every piece. You win by making the right decisions at the right time.
Same in business: think ahead, manage risk, protect your assets, be patient.
In chess, that's strategy. In business, that's financial intelligence.

Endgame tip: once the queens are off, your king becomes a fighter. Walk it to the center. A king on d4 or e5 supports passed pawns, attacks weak pawns, and stops enemy pawns. Then activate your rooks. Kings that stay on g1 lose endgames.
Deflection tactic: if one enemy piece is guarding a key square, give it a bigger job. Attack it, offer a sacrifice, or check so it has to leave. Once the guard is pulled away, the mate or the free piece is yours. Always ask: what is this piece defending?
Middlegame tip: park a knight on a square no enemy pawn can ever attack.
Here Black's knight on e6 can't be kicked, since White has no d or f pawn, and f7 supports it. From e6 it eyes d4 and f4 all game.
Before you move, ask: where can my knight live forever?
βοΈ In chess, every move has a cost.
β Think several moves ahead.
β Evaluate risks before committing.
β Stay calm under pressure.
If your career were a chess game, would you play for your next move or your next big win?

Middlegame plan: pick ONE weak pawn and pile on it.
Here Black's rook on the open b file and the bishop on the long diagonal both hit b2. Two attackers, zero defenders, and White is already in trouble.
Find the target first, then line up your pieces.
Stop resigning early.
One student climbed from 200 to 1000 and then dropped, mostly from quitting games that were still alive.
Below 1200, opponents blunder back all the time. Play on, use your increment, and make them prove the win.
