Things I think the next dem trifecta should have the political capital to do.
1. Abolish the filibuster
2. Abortion protections
3. Medicaid expansion
4. Prescription drug negotiation enhancement
5. Bare bones public option
6. Taxes on the rich to reduce the deficit
@kaku_kasumi@InfraTequila@ImNotOwned He is but he’ll be a pain and might not support nixing the filibuster. Get one of the failed gov candidates (either Jackson or Shah). They should be good enough to win
@CoreyLeander@nikicaga Worth it for who exactly? If you’re a dem who cares about winning the senate it’s the most obvious choice ever. 10x more justifiable than Harris and doing the Harris switch saved several dem senators and dozens of dem congressmen from losing reelection.
@Homiedino@ATS8669 Maine has plenty of guys. The issue is almost none of them wanted to face Collins. The few that did were waiting for Mills to make a decision.
@Weasel9100 Yeah Mills even now doesn’t make sense. A big reason Platner was winning even after Reddit and the tattoo was because he polled way better against Collins than Mills did plus Mills didn’t seem like she was even trying to campaign. Plus Mills favorables have tanked the last year.
@SpecialPuppy1 The best candidates seem to be Jackson or Shah. Shah has pretty good favorable right now and Jackson has a history of over performance. Whichever one loses the Gov is the most obvious replacement candidate to me.
@DJBranham Technically they don’t. They’d just need to force Planter out within the next month. If they succeed they can replace him with one of the failed gov candidates. Either Jackson or Shah most likely.
@JohnRichar8156@bioby6@PollTracker2024 No this all happens after the primary. Maine rules allow the party to choose a replacement nominee should the primary winner drop out before mid July.
@bioby6@JohnRichar8156@PollTracker2024 It shouldn’t be Mills. If Platner is finished, Maine dems should choose among the failed dem gov candidates after the primary is concluded.
@PollTracker2024 Honestly? If we’re going to come out with SA stories we might as well do it now while there’s still time for easy contingency plans. I’m glad we’re dealing with this in June rather than an October surprise.
@sturmovikdragon@ECaliberSeven Big tech or not you’d have to deal with inflation plus other issues like immigration. Tech on our side is overrated. Plus long term it won’t work if AI becomes as good as they’re promising.
@StephenThorson@ECaliberSeven This is probably just an education and engagement issue. Most swing voters are low engagement and low education but the kind of swing voters pundits talk to or are in proximity of are high engagement or high education but only make up a small portion of total swing voters.
