It’s nearly midnight in New York City and it felt like a necessary time for some real reflection on our journey so far.
I guess when I started only the poets back in 2017 I never guessed it would take me to the other side of the world. Tonight I’m thinking about the first time I picked up the guitar at 16 and wrote my first song, the first show I ever played to nobody in a pub in Reading, all those years at Reading festival looking up to all the artists I saw and never thinking one day I could be on that stage, & to all the people at school that told me I’d never make it and bullied me for wanting to be an artist and thought it was a joke. Tonight isn’t about feeling bitter or angry about those situations, because truthfully it drove me to want to become the person and to fulfill my dream that so many people doubted along the way.
From the moment I picked up a guitar and wrote my first song, all I ever wanted to do was write for therapy, for comfort, for others that could hopefully engage in the same feelings when they’d listen. Tonight we celebrate what we really have achieved. Being on the other side of the world in one of the most beautiful and inspiring cities we have ever been to, having headlined a sold out New York show this evening with a second tomorrow, tonight I really just wanna say thank you. To all the incredible family and friends who have always stuck by me, pushed me and encouraged me to chase the dream I’ve always wanted. I guess truthfully the constant reminder to continue to chase this dream is what ultimately kept me going.
I felt so emotional looking across a beautiful New York sky line, that felt somewhat poetic in the journey that me and my best friends in this band have been on. Truthfully we feel like we are only getting started but it really hit me last night standing on this rooftop and looking out, that honestly don’t ever listen to the people that wanna tell you that you won’t make it. Don’t let their words pull you down, use it as another reason to show everyone that there are no boundaries, and if you really believe in yourself and stay true to what you believe in, you can find yourself in situations that really feel like they’ve defied all your own odds and expectation, but really, deep down you always knew you’d make it to that point one day.
To the Tommy from ten years ago, if he saw what you had achieved in not giving up, he’d be super proud of you kid. Remember that x
