Physical books never went away.
Vinyl made a comeback.
Physical movies are still being released.
CDs are still available.
Every major entertainment industry understands that choice matters.
Gaming shouldn't be the first to abandon it.
@Sony@PlayStation, keep physical games alive. 💿

@Sony@PlayStation The weekend has arrived! Set aside some time to appreciate @tamakatsui's impressive physical game collection.
This certainly appears more appealing than a digital game library.

The results are in!
@Sony@PlayStation While the sample size is limited, over 95% indicated they won't purchase an all-digital PS6. Additionally, several individuals mentioned they accidentally voted yes. #PhysicalForever
Physical media is more than just a disc in a box @Sony@PlayStation
• It’s a symbol of actually owning the games that people purchase, often purchased with funds that consumers put in hard work to earn.
• It’s a way of allowing the consumer to have control over the way their game catalog is curated, preserving it into a physical form. No strings can be pulled on the games you own physically, no DRM to hold your games down (assuming the publishers produce proper physical releases).
• It’s a way of sharing the way you play with your friends & family. Almost every gamer who has played on a console, has a memory of sharing a physical game with their loved ones. We know we do!
• It’s a way of being able to sell your games and make your money back, to “reinvest” into new releases. Simultaneously, passing games onto the next gamer who can enjoy them. This will never be allowed on the digital PlayStation marketplace.
• The most important thing for many nerds like ourselves, is that it’s about having a physical collection to keep on our shelves. From the cover arts, to the bonus pack-ins like manuals & posters, to the design on the discs themselves. There’s always a level of personal craftsmanship put in, that you would never get to see from a digital only game.
Physical media won’t stop with Sony, so what makes them think it’s a good idea to jump ship now? We’re currently seeing the strongest support for physical media that we’ve seen since the COVID retro boom.

@Sony@PlayStation, what are the potential consequences if a digital-only PS6 does not meet your sales expectations?
Will it already be too late to win back the loyal customers you pushed away?
NO DISC 💿 NO BUY
Dear @asha_shar@XBOX
On behalf of VGP, we would like to share our perspective as a retailer that has proudly supported the gaming industry and the Xbox brand for many years.
When Microsoft originally introduced the vision for the Xbox One with a strong emphasis on digital ownership, the response from consumers was immediate. Sony took advantage of that moment by positioning the PlayStation 4 as the console that embraced physical game ownership, and history shows how influential that decision became.
Today, the market is shifting once again. Sony appears to be moving further toward a digital-first future, creating an opportunity for Microsoft to differentiate itself by becoming the industry's strongest advocate for physical media.
We encourage Microsoft to revisit Project Helix and make physical games a core part of its strategy. There remains a passionate and dedicated audience that values collecting, preserving, lending, trading, and truly owning the games they purchase. As a retailer, we see that demand every day.
The saying "what goes around comes around" feels especially relevant. Years ago, Sony benefited by championing physical ownership while Microsoft moved toward digital. Today, Microsoft has an opportunity to reverse that narrative and become the company that stands behind consumer choice.
Many gamers still look back on the Xbox 360 era as the golden age of Xbox. The platform was synonymous with innovation, great games, and strong relationships with both players and retail partners. We believe Microsoft can recapture much of that goodwill by reaffirming its commitment to physical gaming and by bringing Project Helix to market.
As one of Microsoft's retail partners, we believe a renewed investment in physical media would benefit consumers, retailers, publishers, and Xbox itself. We respectfully encourage you and your leadership team to consider this opportunity and help usher Xbox back to the position of industry leadership that so many fans remember.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to seeing Xbox continue to innovate while supporting the millions of players who still value physical game ownership.
Sincerely
VGP
@VideoGamesPlus_@RockstarGames@PlayStation I think the coincidence of the ads is very strange... I hope I'm wrong and that my bad thoughts aren't true. But so many coincidences just days apart... very suspicious.
