in my notes to say tomorrow:
"I recommend y’all fall in love with Ordinary Time – ‘cause it’s bigger and better and longer and sweeter than summertime, and God will always meet you there."
We
cannot,
of course,
save the world
because we do not
have authority over its parts.
We
can serve
the world though.
That’s everyone’s calling,
to lead a life that
helps.
—Barry Lopez
Our church’s brand new drinking fountain and water bottle filler is giving off some strong evangelical vibes…
or some strong progressive vibes, depending on how you read it

I’m so happy to be home and going to worship with my @NWLifeChurch family today!
Like the Psalm says,
I was glad when they said to me, let us go to the house of the Lord
In our minds holiness is usually about what we abstain from.
But Jesus saw holiness as what you give yourself to (namely, justice, mercy, compassion, love & hospitality).
In the end, the holiest people are the ones who love well.
—Pastor Rich Villodas
I heard a sermon on Pentecost today (Pentecost Sunday) and it included some quotes from Rev. Dr. Willie James Jennings (which made me happy because it felt so wonderfully fitting for our church with its Pentecostal roots).
“The resurrection of Jesus was revealed first to those that society counted for little. The new world, where justice reigns and hope lives, was experienced first by a woman in tears of despair who had seen the greatest injustice. That shows us the nature of God.”
—Justin Welby
But we make His love too narrow
By false limits of our own;
And we magnify His strictness
With a zeal He will not own.
—Frederick Faber, There’s a Wideness In God’s Mercy
This past week at @NWLifeChurch, I noticed some boxes that had been delivered. One was for 12,000 communion cups. The other set of boxes contained 8,000 plastic eggs for the Easter egg dash. Yup, we got our priorities in order I’d say.
“I look forward to Lent every year because I’m a fan of anything that slows me down. Whether it be people or projects, seasons or sunsets - that which causes me to pause is to be valued—a sacred gift.” —Kat Armas
