@BarrettSallee Appreciate your enthusiasm for bowl games. Don't share it on that specific subject, but I get it. The problem is the sport itself continually sells out all its traditions in the pursuit of bigger paydays, making it harder and harder to care about any of it.
You can't just restrict student-athlete movement because you don't like it. Other students can transfer all they like. If you want to slow down transfers, you need a CBA & contracts & buyouts, etc, instead of the Wild West. No going back to the way it was.
John Calipari is right on this — allow one player transfer, after that, you have to sit out a year to transfer. We have guys playing for four different teams in four years. It’s beyond ridiculous and bad for the sport:
@DanWolken@georgewrighster What a cop-out. The committee has proven it will manipulate the rankings to get the desired result. In the unlikely situation this played out, they could just drop Notre Dame to 13. The actual significance of the MOU is being grossly overstated.
@UnrivaledPsu Could you not say the same about the QB stats too? You can believe whoever should have won it, but the stats of all the finalists were underwhelming compared to past winners. Anyone acting like any of those 4 players didn't have a legit case for winning wasn't watching.
Weakest thing I've ever heard. All that alpha BS guys like this beat their chest about & too scared to work with the best people because you can't control basic urges like a civilized human being? How do you even walk down the street?
Choosing a young, attractive woman as your executive assistant is a mistake. It’s unwise. Sherrone Moore has a wife, three kids, his dream job, and claims faith in Jesus. He is not uniquely undisciplined. Many men struggle with lust. He put himself in a compromising position. As a man, you have an obligation to protect yourself and your family, and the best way is to never place yourself in a situation where you might make this mistake. He put the temptation in front of him every day. Many men have and would stumble the same way in this position. Protect yourself and your family by being wise about how who you choose to surround yourself with every day.
@TJMoe28 What are you, a feral dog? Weakest thing I've ever heard. All that alpha BS guys like this beat their chest about & too scared to work with the best people because you can't control basic urges like a civilized human being? How do you even walk down the street?
@DanWolken can just rank them 13. It means nothing. ND had a legit gripe last Sunday. Maybe they went too far with their reaction & lost some sympathy. Fine. It happens. Everyone get over it. Both sides benefit from each other, so move on. 2/2
@DanWolken Not really sure what all the fuss is about. Bowls have been pointless for a qtr century, who, besides ESPN cares that they sat out? So they're guaranteed a spot if they're ranked in the Top 12, big deal. If they're a borderline team again, the same committee that just screwed 1/2
@Lauren_Chris@DanWolken I'm not arguing ND's sched is good, but it's not really an outlier among the CFP teams and contenders that their critics make it out to be. 2/2
@Lauren_Chris@DanWolken The indie sched topic is so tiresome. Yes, they've watered down their schedule over the years. Everyone has. The SEC is the toughest league, but they strategically sched to protect their contenders, which is easy to do for mega conferences &rarely play anyone in noncon. 1/2
@lackmeftwich806 Amazing how many people out there know exactly what is best for a group of 18-22 year-old kids they've never met. Real shame all these kids lives are completely ruined now.
@ESPNBooger Why does anyone play in a bowl anymore? They've been irrelevant for years. I kinda get it for smaller programs, but half the players opt out, the other half goes thru the motions. What's the point, other than for ESPN to sell ad time? It's ok to let them go.
@TMatich Why? Not being snarky, but do conference championship games matter in the age of the 12 team playoff and bloated mega conferences? Should they? Frankly, conferences seem pointless when you don't play half the teams in your own league.
The better question is why are the rest of these power schools still in conferences? Notre Dame's sched is never that different from anyone else's, & how are these bloated mega conferences helping their schools? I'd argue the ACC is actually hurting its members.
While today's playoff decisions will help determine the future of conference championship games, there's a larger issue not getting enough discussion: Why is Notre Dame given massive advantages no other program enjoys?
The Irish:
Don't have to play in a conference. Don't have to play a conference championship game. Arrange their own schedule.
It's a lot easier to look good in November when you're playing a service academy and 3 bottom feeders from the ACC, the weakest P4 league, whose champion may get jumped by the Sun Belt champ.
Your players don't get beat up. You can pad your stats and record. You get a bye week to rest during championship week.
ND hasn't played a playoff team since Sept. 13 and has played only 3 teams in the FPI top 35 all year, going 1-2 in those games. Is that a playoff resume? It's certainly not a playoff schedule.
This isn't even close to a level playing field. When are the P4 leagues going to wake up?
