@DanNeidle While some may’ve outlived their usefulness, not all taxes are to raise money, some are to act as deterrents or warning flags against financial/economic matters that the govt want to be able to monitor or consider deleterious.
Really positive news for Bletchley: £17m Government investment to deliver a new eastern entrance at the station. It's a big moment after campaigning with local residents - improving access, boosting the town centre and unlocking growth. More here: https://t.co/mseGMy7W3B
@BBCRadioStoke No, the govt should tax back what it considers excess from those rich enough to afford it.
Means test it after paying it out with the existing HMRC infrastructure, rather than creating a whole new system to attempt to means test it beforehand.
@ultrakillblast Why remake? Why not make your own version inspired by it, with the serial number filed off (or at least partially obscured by giving John Carpenter his cut).
@anon_opin Based on replies the example I used wasn't quite correct.
I think I should've used a better one like MK1 and MK11, postcode areas which are at opposite ends of Milton Keynes.
@anon_opin Because the two parts end and start (respectively) with numbers, and some postcodes have two numbers in the middle while others have three.
Is that “W1 1” for Mayfair, or “W11” for Notting Hill?
@JudithR94008067@anon_opin Yes, that was a bad example. I should've used a better one like MK1 and MK11, postcode areas which are at opposite ends of Milton Keynes.

@constans Why else would they talk about “The Deep State TM”, their latest nebulous “other”, that actually runs things or, as in this case, is somehow able to frustrate them from doing things competently.
@DAaronovitch The state already does live forever (in one form or another) so why not organise its finances on that basis, rather than just worrying about the yearly govt budget.
