I wish that all plant taxonomy studies were as fun to read as this one in Capitulum.
Delighted to learn that I’ve studied TWO endemic Cirsiums in Nevada. C. clokeyi (photo by Jan Nachlinger) in the Spring Mtns. & C. viperinum in Great Basin NP.

C'est ne pas un cactus! In @cobotanist's new paper out in Capitulum, molecular, morphological, and ecological data support the recognition of five new thistles from the alpine tundra of the rocky mountains, including Cirsium funkae: https://t.co/InguLIXvK0
If a child was born on the moon to astronaut parents who are multinational (like a Canadian and an American), would he/she have birthright citizenship in the USA? Is SCOTUS considering this one? Could the child legally return to the earth, vs. risk deportation? #Artemis
@MarkLazerus He would follow his Twitter feed while doing the color commentary. Twice he acknowledged me as a loyal fan while I was listening to the 40 second delay of the game on my WGN app in Elko, Nevada. RIP to such a wonderful man.
A reminder that pre-ACA, insurers selling health plans to individuals would not only deny people with pre-existing conditions.
They would also deny people based on their jobs:
Cops, firefighters, miners, offshore drillers and pro athletes were denied plans https://t.co/2gLwilIiAB
@mountainman_mc On Thursday, a portrait photographer doing a shoot just east of Lundy School was igniting smoke bombs for special effects. I got him to promise he would cease that illegal activity and then I notified Mt. Charleston FD, for any needed follow through.
@mountainman_mc Griffith’s Lodge was in the original Charleston Park, named after the founder of the 1905 era resort we now call Old Town. Now a fire station/library. I georeferenced about 2,000 herbarium specimens at UNR which had these obsolete names. Anyone want to pinpoint “Rainbow Falls?”
@mountainman_mc One that he missed adding to the map, but used on herbarium specimen labels was “Excelsior Canyon.” I was finally able to determine that to be the valley between the modern day Red Rock Canyon NCA scenic loop and Blue Diamond.
Last year on this date, we woke up to the largest flood we have ever seen… this video was by no means the worst of it, just the first I saw in Lee Canyon

@HistoryNevada Mr. Leddick was a bit too doom and gloom, but wise to sign the alarm. Being that Elko Co. has more precipitation than most Nevada counties, there would be recovery on the horizon.
The Clark County School Board spent $250,000 (as per KTNV reporter Anjali Patel) to repair the flood damage last August from Hurricane Hilary. It’s repaired, as shown in these before and after shots. Now what?
The Mt. Charleston community came out today 5/30/24 in opposition to the proposed closure of Earl Lundy Elementary School. Here are the current and future kids being denied attending their local school, along with their parents who attended this school and former instructors. 1/2
