So a tax that no school has ever paid is now being described as a tax break, which nobody ever has before. As opposed to a new tax on education, which is what it is. It’s an impressively Orwellian use of nomenclature. And it will pay for a third of an extra teacher in every state school. Well done. Revolutionary.

We all know that the BBC loves nothing more than talking about the BBC but if there was any doubt that #Newsnight is finished as a serious news programme, leading with Gregg Wallace on the day the French government has collapsed puts it beyond dispute. Very sad.
