Reform UK say they’ll fight solar, battery and pylon developments in councils they control.
But can they actually block projects?
In most cases: no — but for sub-50MW schemes, refusal means delay. And in 2025, delay = grid risk.

For anyone interested in how to accelerate grid connections, such as... any incoming Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero for example (@Ed_Miliband) , here are our top three recommendations:

Grid Supply Chain: The reason many grid connections are projected to take so long to deliver is that the supply chain for grid equipment is experiencing a crunch. Given the strategic importance of upgrading the grid, the networks (potentially with the support of the government) could consider collectively negotiating for the acquisition of these components to increase their bargaining power.
JOB(s) ALERT! I am recruiting for a Product Manager and a Senior Backend Engineer for the Centre for AI & Climate. These roles will be leading on the development of a new data platform bringing the data science community together around the data required to unlock key challenges where AI can be applied to support decarbonisation. Over the past four months Yottar has been participating in the first phase of Department for Energy Security and Net Zero's Flex Markets Unlocked Programme. The idea behind the programme is that small scale flex is not yet realising its full system potential and more needs to be done to make it easier for flex asset owners and flex service providers to maximise the value of their assets by optimising access to, and coordination across, multiple electricity markets, including the wholesale market, the ESO markets and DSO markets. We have been talking to a lot of current and potential flex service providers about this challenge over the past few months and are now able to share what we have learned, what we think needs to be built, and what rules and processes need to change to enable this. To hear more please come along to our webinar on the Energy Market of the Future on the 15th March. You can sign up via this link: https://t.co/7b6UUxlKA0
@heatpolicyrich@theheatinghub Would either of you be able to help?! I am looking to install an ASHP. The installer did a heat loss calc that came to 12.38kW and is proposing to install a 12kW Vaillant heat pump. Will it work if the heat loss is higher than heat pump capacity?
1/ Good to see that Ofgem are tackling the transmission grid queue by requiring projects to meet milestones (land rights, planning, construction etc) or be kicked out of the queue.

2/ For developers it would be good to get transparency on when and where projects are removed from the queue as these removals create new connection opportunities.
I have been thinking about how the UK government could improve innovation funding. Here are my top 5 ways that innovation funding could be improved. https://t.co/HxUUbzmxl7
