What are Christian values?
I think all good Christians want peace. They want to avoid hatred and bitterness and any unnecessary conflict. A good Christian should give service using our time, our gifts, and resources to help others, not just focusing on yourself. A Christian needs to be pure with self-control so we must try to live a good life and try to eliminate sin, particularly things like anger and jealousy. These are insidious.
A good Christian should show gratitude. God is everything in our life. Just waking up every day and being alive again that day is a real blessing. It's important that we thank God for that. We cannot take anything for granted. God giveth and he taketh away.
If we take all of these into account, we must measure our lives against these ideas. Think every day how you can follow these values and how we can show ourselves to be the best examples around us because people will admire and they will think, "Why is this person acting this way all the time?" Some will come and ask, "Why are you like this?" and it gives you a chance to share in the work of God.
Every day we must defend the doctrine of God and one of the ways we do that is by being the best example of ourselves, the shining example of ourselves to everybody around us. What does that mean? It means that we have to be strong in our faith and we have to act in the right way at all times.
Now we all know what happens in work situations or with our families, etc. People say silly things, stupid things, and you react, right? You snap at somebody, you gossip about somebody, etc. We cannot do this. We have to act with kindness and respect to all of those around us. I've said this before but don't confuse kindness and respect with weakness. We still have to put our point across. We can still criticize something but we do it constructively and we do it politely. It's like acting professional at work but now we're acting professionally with God. We defend the doctrine. We are polite. We are kind. We are respectful but we defend the doctrine.
We don't be jealous. We don't be angry at anybody. If you feel angry, walk away and pray to God. We have to train ourselves to think before we speak because there's a passage in the Bible (I don't have it in front of me right now) that basically says the voice is the most dangerous part of who we are, the one that can commit the worst sins. Although you might think that sins like "thou shalt not kill" and "thou shalt not steal" are really important (of course they are), the internal sins, the jealousy, the anger, the resentment, these are insidious and we need to avoid them. We need to train ourselves because we must bear good fruits all the time, no matter what is happening around us. We need to show the best example.
Why is that? Because people will notice. They will notice that we are calm. They will notice that we are kind and respectful but with strength. One day someone will come up to you and say, "Why are you so happy all the time? Why do you always treat everybody with respect?" and you know what you say? You say, "Because I believe in the living God and I follow his rules and I support his doctrine." People ask, "Well where do I go to do that?" and then you can invite them to your church. We must always be the best examples so think about what you say before you say it and pray to God to provide calmness in your life and to say the right things and to bear good fruits.
If we are servants of God then how should we behave every day? God is with us. He is protecting us. There are conditions. It's a merit-based system. We have to believe in him and we have to act in the right way. We represent him. We have to be good examples to the people around us. We must love everybody around us, which means not to sin against him. We must behave as the best versions of ourselves all the time but we're human beings. We get angry, we get jealous, and we have to remove those feelings.
The best weapon of a Christian is prayer. If you're trying to change your behavior and pray to God about it and ask him for help, you must bear good fruits because you won't achieve salvation unless you can convince God that you are moving forward with the right actions. It's not enough just to believe in Jesus Christ our Lord.
If you feel anger against:
- your partner
- your children
- your siblings
- people at work
- somebody in the street
turn around, walk away, pray, okay, ask for prudence, temperance, ask for wisdom to follow the doctrine carefully and God will continue to love you more and will help you in anything you ask Him.
How does one truly surrender to God?
This is a really hard question, because as human beings we think we're in control of our lives. If you don't believe in God, you have no concept of what God means. Then you will think, "Well, I control my life. I have free will. I can make decisions. Sometimes I get them wrong, sometimes I get them right. If I see things going on around me that I don't like, I can do something about it, or if I can't control it, I can't control it, but at least I can analyze it, and that's fair."
Okay, if you don't believe in God, why would you think anything anywhere else?
Why would you think anything else?
If you do believe in God and you have to accept that every aspect of your life is God's will, you must surrender to Him.
You must realize that every major decision you make is part of God's will. We still have free will. We still make our decisions, but if you surrender to God and you believe in God, you make the decisions that you believe that God will be pleased with, because you're following His doctrine, the Living Gospel.
Every time we make a major decision, we should pray, and in our prayers to God we should say, "Father, I want to do this. This is the reason why. Can you give me a sign or something to let me know that this is the right thing, because I do not wish to do anything that is bad for my spiritual life.
What am I trying to say here? I don't want to make this decision without your approval. Is this a good decision for my spiritual life?"
Because when you believe in God, the material life becomes a minor problem. If you believe in God, your spiritual life is the most important, because you want that chance of salvation with God, that chance of living for eternity.
You must consider everything you do. You must act in the right way and bear good fruits, and you must surrender to God.
You understand that everything is for God's will, no matter whether you like it or not. It's in His plan.
Would you surrender to God
Today in our society we seem to be confusing compassion with weakness and that is fundamentally a flawed approach.
As Christians we are commanded to not sin against people, to be respectful and kind but confuse kindness with weakness. There is a different kind of strength in being a Christian because you are constantly tested. God will allow the enemy to test you, to test our faith, and the enemy is very jealous and will do anything to take us away from God.
He's so clever, the enemy. He can pretend to be acting like God. He can bring people into your lives that seem good but ultimately act in a bad way. They bear bad fruits.
You can tell a good person from a bad person by the fruits that they bear because while somebody can hide their heart from human beings, their actions speak louder than words.
Christians are tested constantly with their faith and can go through terrible moments in their life but they get their strength from prayer. Somebody once told me from the church I belong to: "The best weapon a Christian can have is prayer."
Whenever you're having challenges, get down on your knees and cry out to God. Tell him how thankful you are for your life every day because God giveth and he taketh away. Every day is a bonus.
Thank Him for all the beautiful things you have and then describe to him your challenges in detail. Talk to him like he's your best friend, like you were telling your friend about all your problems. You have to act the same way with God and ask him for help. He will help but he will only help if he sees where you are bearing good fruits.
Now we are humans, we're going to make mistakes but he sees your heart 100%. He knows the difference between a good and a bad heart, unlike humans, you can't hide who you are from him.
He will reward those who bear good fruits and have a good heart with good intentions. Christians who are acting in the right way are extremely strong because the temptations of the material life are very strong.
That is an amazing level of strength that most people cannot handle and it takes time to get to that point. Don't confuse kindness with weakness. The world is full of distractions and temptations and a good Christian will resist and be strong with their conviction and will set a shining example for those around them.
That is an amazing strength that most people cannot https://t.co/peuDrUYz4F don't confuse compassion and kindness with weakness.
What does it truly mean to submit to God? I mean if we truly believe in Him, that He's real, that He's here with us all the time, watching us, what does it truly mean to submit to Him?
It means that you have to surrender everything in your life to Him. You have to understand that whilst we have free will and we have choices, that He controls everything around us. He wants us to be good. He wants us to bear good fruits but He has a plan for us. If you have accepted Him, our Lord Jesus Christ, as your Saviour and you have truly submitted to Him, then you don't need to worry about the future. You don't need to worry about what's going on around you because God is in control of everything.
All we can do, all we must do, is focus on:
- praying
- reading the Bible
- praising Him
- being good people, setting an example to all the people around us
We must be the shining example. We have peace in our hearts and only God can truly give us peace in our hearts. It doesn't matter how rich or poor you are, it doesn't matter what your background is. Only God can truly give you peace in your heart.
Once you have that and once you understand that He's real, then you can just focus on the present. Be the best version that you can be. Be the best father, friend, son, the best worker wherever you're working. If you're an employer, treat your employees correctly. Be kind to people. There's nothing wrong with being strong but being strong doesn't confuse kindness with weakness. A lot of people do that and it's wrong. You can be strong, you can get your opinion across, but you do it in a respectful way.
All the noise that swirls around us in politics and social things that are going on in society itself, leave that to God. If you want to see changes, pray to God in your prayers. Tell Him, "I love you God so much. Thank you for everything you've given to me but I have these problems and these issues. Explain to me, show me, help me to understand and read that Bible every day. The doctrine is in the Bible, the living flowing waters of the gospel are in that Bible and are in your heart. This is why we receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is inside our heart and is transforming us all the time to be good people who believe in God and our Lord Jesus Christ."
Every morning be thankful for another day of life because God is in control of everything. When you pray thank Him for everything and tell Him all your concerns and what you need in detail, okay, things about your business life, your family, your friends, academic life, whatever it is. It's truly special to do that. I hope this was useful to read and thanks very much.
Remember the first two laws of Christianity:
1. Thou shalt love God above all else.
2. Thou shalt love thy neighbor.
What does that mean really? It means not to sin, not to commit sin against other people. That is the true meaning of spiritual love.
What does that mean for our daily lives? It means that we have to think about everything we say, everything we do, our actions. We are meant to submit to God. Submitting to God means allowing God to control all aspects of our life. All we concentrate on is doing the best with what we have, living a godly life and pleasing God, which means:
- praying
- reading the Bible
- praising Him
- not sinning
I'm not just talking about the major sins; I'm talking about the subconscious sins as well:
- anger
- jealousy
- resentment
- greed
All of these things are sometimes more dangerous than the major sins. We have to consider all of this when we are acting out our daily lives at work, with our families. Of course we're not perfect; we're human and God knows this but he sees our heart. He knows what we are thinking; he knows what we're going to do if there's 100% transparency there so if you are sinning with intent eventually God will give up on you. Doesn't matter how much you believe in Him but if you believe in Him that Lord Jesus Christ is our Savior and you work towards removing sin from your life, God will reward you. This is the key and we have to take that into account with everything we do.
Work hard, be confident in yourself, take care of people around you, talk to them about God and bring them to Him but you can never persuade anybody to follow God. Only God can. Our job is to open the door but it's God's job to bring them in so do not be arrogant and think that you can change somebody's heart. Only God can.
What happened with Henry Nowak in the Uk was a tragedy. No one should have to face what he went through.
The anti racism and equality laws in the UK have gone to far. The police should treat everyone equally and apply due process accordingly.
The accused was clearly ill. Yes he was a Sikh who are allowed to carry ceremonial knives but it is just as easy to pick up a kitchen knife and commit the same crime.
Blaming it on a single religion is ridiculous. The accused should never have been allowed out in public based on his medical and criminal history. That was the failing.
Immigration has brought massive benefits to the UK but I agree that if you move to the UK then you must respect our laws and learn English. You must become a productive member of society.
It is a privilege to be in the UK. We allow freedom of religion and freedom of speech. You must comply with our laws though or you must leave.
The laws of the UK are based on Christian thinking. You don't have to be a Christian to live in the UK and you can practice your religion here, but you must comply with our laws.
God commands us to love our neighbour which means not to sin against them. But if your neighbour breaks the law then there are consequences. God commands us to live within the laws of the country we reside in. We must respect them.
If you cannot respect the laws of the country you reside in then you should leave.
What does it mean to be happy? I feel that family, friendship, a sense of purpose, faith, health and being financially comfortable are the key factors.
But society seems to be obsessed with money, ranking far higher than any of the other factors. But when people are close to death and are looking back on their lives, they rarely wish that they were richer.
I do believe that entrepreneurs should be encouraged with incentives. In fact I think people such as Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson etc should never have to pay income tax because they have generated so much wealth and employed so many people, the additional tax revenue raised from their companies and employees far outweighs anything that they would pay.
But the rest of society should not be left behind. Jesus teaches us to look after everyone around us. Everyone deserves food, shelter, safety, an education and opportunities to improve themselves. The basics should be guaranteed.
Capitalism is the best system we have for creating wealth and moving society forward but it only works properly when everyone has access to information and opportunities equally. This clearly is not the case as the rich tend to manipulate the system for preserving and growing their own wealth.
This is corruption and greed which are sins. No wonder societies are collapsing because of this.
Unless we fundamentally change how people behave then I believe capitalism will collapse as well.
We must all look into our hearts and cleanse our lives from sin.
I am all for free market economics, but this is ridiculous. God doesn't care about economic systems or political parties. These commandments are for your spiritual life, not about economic systems. Believe that Jesus is your saviour and remove sin from your life, and you will move forward. But God will test you constantly about your faith. We are here to love and worship him for a chance to be with him at the end. Focus on your heart.
I find it strange, this obsession with financial gains. Everyone talks about the profits of this, the GDP of that and how we should maximize financial gains.
Of course this is important. Economies must grow for all of our benefit.
But our purpose in life is to love and praise God, not to be the richest person.
When people are close to death, they never say, oh I wish I had been richer. Most will say, I wish I had had better relationships with their parents, siblings, children, extended family and friends. They wish they had been healthier, helped more, ...... Power and money don't really become part of the conversation.
And sadly less and less of us are wishing they had had a better relationship with God.
Yet modern society is obsessed with money.
How can we reconcile this major difference? Why do so many rich people committ suicide? Why are they so unhappy if they have so much?
They have become lost.
I think a lot about society today and the way the world works.
There is so much negativity out there in the mainstream press and it's all we get to see. I guess bad news generates more clicks and views? Advertisers love to as it means more revenues, but it's a dark place for the world.
Yet there are so many wonderful things happening around us but we never get to hear or see it. Good news doesn't generate as many clicks or views apparently.
Or are we being deliberately manipulated to think dark thoughts? To lose hope.
As a Christian, my purpose is to love and praise God. To love God so not like human love. To love God is not to sin against him which is not easy.
After this I must love my neighbour which also means to not sin against him or her. These are beautiful things to think about but we all struggle to fulfill them.
Human beings are weak. We need God to instruct us, to give us goals to follow and fight for. If we follow these rules then the world will become a better place, and there will be more good news to report.
Hopefully it will generate more clicks as well.
@geoallison I really enjoy your site. It's important to report these stories and apply pressure on the government of the day to prioritise defence. Long may you continue,
