@saranormous For Bay Area - Sunol. Have a friend who’s an environmental consultant who’s done work there (with construction projects) and specifically had to count frogs. Be careful of rattlesnakes (he sees as many rattlesnakes as he does frogs)
@ben_c_rowen Curious - does the mid-decade redistricting itself juice Dem turnout statewide? If you’re activating base anger across 5 newly competitive districts at once, the math gets harder for GOP even if Republicans still outnumber Dems.
@kimsmithholmes I’m asking why we have Supreme Court Justices who speak more like the politicians you’re describing rather than Sasse. Maybe Alito can retire and Sasse can replace him :)
@USSpaceLawyer@MattGlassman312 Just to take it fully to the OP - legislating by constitutional amendment is going to create edge cases. But i think the power of having “all persons” written into the text is a valid policy tradeoff!
@USSpaceLawyer@MattGlassman312 I think the more important point is actually that this aspect of citizenship is determined by the constitution and not by statute. I’m in favor of the much higher bar (amendment) to protect our rights
@scottlincicome Also surprising he said to use it for “bonuses to workers” and not “invest in domestic manufacturing” - they were always saying this was a near-term fix to long term industrial policy
@jasonfurman@itaisher This is critical. We need it for the regression discontinuity design. And I propose each year we slightly vary the percent as well. Like +/-3%
@baym Super cool to see the impact of a grad student’s work (noted ‘performance jump’ in Step 3) in a collaboration between a public company and an AI behemoth https://t.co/nT1beI4DyC
Must Listen: Justice Alito reveals the obvious irony of citing the Black Codes as justification for Hawaii’s 2023 firearm restriction law.
“They wanted to disarm the Black population in order to help the Klan terrorize them...they wanted to put them at the mercy of racist law enforcement officers. So is it not the height of irony to cite a law that was enacted for exactly the purpose of preventing someone from exercising the Second Amendment right, to cite this as an example of what the Second Amendment protects.”
