Many people don’t leave churches because of the theology the leadership holds, but because of the way the leadership holds that theology.
How we believe is just as important as what we believe. And in many ways, how we believe reveals what we believe.
I’d like to speak to Evangelicals.
If you are like me, you’ve spent most of your life being told that you have to vote Republican to be a good Christian.
I understand if your convictions prevent you from voting for a Democrat. But let me suggest something: 1/10
Culture eats vision for breakfast.
You can have an incredible vision for your organization, but if the culture’s toxic it will ultimately undermine the execution of the vision.
I keep hearing stories of Pastors shocked their congregants support Trumpism. They preached the Bible and God's love for years and can't believe what's being revealed.
Sermon-centric Church life is a big part of the problem. It's not doing the discipleship work you think it is.
Instead of measuring a church by its attendance & budget, here’s another idea:
Let’s assess it by the quality of community life that disciples people to love well; a culture that equips individuals to have a 1st hand life w/God & a commitment to release people in their gifts.
My reminder. 🖤✨🖋
“If there’s something that can move my heart and soul to experience the awe and wonder of my faith in Jesus again, I firmly believe that the way back is going to be through the joy of my son.” -October 2020
ADHD is thinking about all the things you have to do, getting stressed about all the things, worrying about the consequences of not doing the things, but still feeling stuck and unable to do any of the things.
For the first 3 centuries the primary magnet of the Church was not their worship gatherings, their societal celebrities, their intellectual acumen, or even their evangelistic fervor. It was how they loved their enemies. ~ The Patient Ferment by Alan Kreider
Tweeted this after the Parkland shooting. Over 4 years ago. What’s different? Something has to change and Christians can be at the forefront of legislative change that is A PART of the solution. #Uvalde
Jesus gave up his rights for our flourishing. As followers of Jesus should we not consider giving up our “rights” and influence people to do the same for the flourishing of our kids? #illletyoufigureoutwhatthisisabout#phillippians2
Then:
- Consider believing there is gun legislation that will have an impact on mass shootings
- Fight for gun reform with as much passion as you fight for abortion reform
If you:
- Hold to a pro-life ethic that stems from a belief in the "Imago Dei"
- Believe legislation has an impact on #abortion
- Believe children outside the womb have as much value as inside the womb
We’ve utterly failed our children when:
They can be brutally killed in the womb because enough adults clamor for abortion rights.
They can be brutally killed in the classroom because enough adults clamor for gun rights.
A child’s life is more precious than our rights.
