In line at Disney & I hear these 30ish sisters talking negatively about their bodies. I say to them you are beautiful AND your words are powerful: your body hears them, so does my 4 year old. Insecurity & diet culture start early. Choose compassion & the words you use carefully.
If I could go back and tell myself something at PCOS diagnosis I would say:
~learn about blood sugar balance
~start moving your body in ways you love
~becoming a mom may be hard, but it's possible
~dump that dude your dating
~travel as much as you can prior to 2020
Sometimes we need to pay as much attention to what is not said as what is said. This applies to food too. It's not the tub of dark chocolate peanut butter cups you devoured. It's that you didn't get more than 6 gm of fiber today, ate one vegetable, and didn't get any fruit in.
When you think about the dirty dozen and clean fifteen, think beyond the produce section. What canned foods, frozen foods, or processed foods are on the dirty dozen list?
Strawberries > jam
Grapes > wine and vinegars
Tomatoes > tomato sauce, ketchup, salsa
Apples > apple sauce
Insulin increases LH (luteinizing hormone) & decreases FSH (follicle stimulating hormone). This is not helpful, follicles aren't told to "mature" & so when they are bombarded with the message to ovulate - they aren't ready. Too much insulin is bad. Blood sugar balance helps!
