Hand belonging to an X-ray technician at the Royal London Hospital, which shows the damage from radiation exposure, 1900.
Every morning, they would calibrate the machines by taking an X-ray of their hands. So you might be wondering, why not just use something else to test the X-ray? Like a piece of meat or a chicken leg? Well back in 1900, people didn't know the dangers of radiation exposure so they thought it would be harmless to use their hands. During this time, people could even purchase and build their own X-ray at home for entertainment purposes. Those who did, however, often went on to develop cancer or suffer from amputations.
The X-ray had been discovered just a few years before in 1895 by a man name Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, a German mechanical engineer and physicist. He named it X-ray because he actually didn't have a name for his invention and decided to use the mathematical designation "x" for something unknown. In some European countries, X-rays are actually called Röntgen rays.
Röntgen did not seek patents for his discoveries because he wanted society to benefit from the practical applications of X-rays. In 1901, Röntgen was awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physics.
This week's #SpotlightSunday is dedicated to our Southern Regional High School and Southern Regional Middle School Generation Dream student clubs who will be hosting another pancake breakfast at @TGIFridays in Manahawkin next Sunday December 3rd from 8-11am. 1/2
When Albert Einstein met Charlie Chaplin in 1931, Einstein said, "What I admire most about your art is its universality. You do not say a word, and yet the world understands you." "It's true." Replied Chaplin, "But your fame is even greater. The world admires you, when no one understands you."
We are incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Michael Gambon. He brought immeasurable joy to Harry Potter fans from all over the world with his humour, kindness and grace. We will forever hold his memory in our hearts.
I had a chance to visit @Gbrooks5_ today in the hospital. He is such a fighter. It’s all we’ve ever known him to be. He played 65 snaps with this tumor Vs @FSUFootball. He fought daily to be with his team.
Right now he’s not the exact same GB, but still the same fighter. Football is far off, & honestly should be the furthest thing from everyone’s mind. Pray for his family, support this recovery, & know that this young man has 0 quit in him. It’ll take time, but he’ll bounce back.

No. 23 Molly Regulski delivers the set point for Southern to go up 1-0 (25-16) against a formidable foe in Old Bridge.
Southern stayed in control throughout set one, and has Old Bridge confused.
The Shore’s number one team is showing why they are number one.

Shore Conference Girls Volleyball: Preseason All-Shore Selection
.
Southern Regional has consistently been a dominating force in the Shore Conference and NJ girls volleyball over the last 2+ decades which means when there are rising stars, players like Jordyn Hamlin have some huge shoes to fill.
.
Well, Jordyn has done just that and is the first player being announced as a member of the preseason All-Shore Girls Volleyball Team in the Outside Hitter position. Coming off of a 2022 campaign with a team leading 283 kills on a program that went 31-1, Hamlin comes back to the Rams in her Senior year with sights set on some massive numbers combined with hanging more Championship banners in the Rams gym.
.
Congratulations Jordyn on being an All-Shore selection!
