@realJ_Mitchell @CrisBairosFern Québec had religious school boards as a constitutional right. Newfoundland and Labrador had religious school boards as a constitutional right. Both provinces voted to end that constitutional right with the federal government’s corresponding vote.

Ontario should do the same.

@realJ_Mitchell @CrisBairosFern I agree that it’s offensive. It doesn’t belong in Canada. But that same charter embeds constitutional protection for Catholic school boards to be public and Catholic. The OHR does a similar thing. That’s why I focus squarely on the need to end that constitutional right.

@CrisBairosFern … of your advocacy. I do not agree with your advocacy against wokeness. But even your efforts are limited because you’re advocating in one board (when there are two boards) in your region. It would be more effective to unify WRDSB and WCDSB with no religious indoctrination.

@CrisBairosFern I’m only stating what occurs in a Catholic board like WCDSB. I do not believe there should be separate Catholic boards. Having Catholic boards is an outdated right & idea. Ontario can vote to end that practice.

One of the reasons to end it is duplicity.

@CrisBairosFern Further, OECTA will fiercely support any of their teachers who do not display a Pride flag in their classroom, do not do Pride-related lessons/activities, and explicitly tell students the Catholic belief (and that they believe) that a same-sex relationship/marriage is sin.

@CrisBairosFern As much as you note that the OECTA president and others at OECTA may support Pride symbols, ultimately they support the FACT that their teachers are the front-line teachers teaching the Catholic Family Life Curriculum that teaches against same-sex marriages.

@CrisBairosFern Thanks for replying. It’s not as much in public Catholic schools. I’ll use Waterloo Region as an example. WRDSB teachers are required to participate. WCDSB (Catholic) teachers are not required & their union will protect them if they choose not to celebrate Pride or show symbols.
