NEW: No TikTok account? They're tracking you anyway
TikTok harvests sensitive and embarrassing information about you even if you don't use the app. Last week, I watched websites send TikTok data on cancer diagnoses, fertility treatment, mental health crises and more
Here's what you can do about it:

Great to see the California Opt Me Out Act (AB566) signed into law, ensuring browsers offer users an easy way to tell websites not to sell or share their personal info.
FYI: Our browser and extension have been sending this signal by default since 2021.

Scammers, beware! Our browser's upgraded Scam Blocker tool now covers more types of online scams. We'll help you avoid fake storefronts, cryptocurrency exchanges, scareware, and more — on top of our phishing and malware protection. Built by us for your security and privacy.
Translation: Meta has been secretly tracking millions of Android users’ browsing activity in Chrome and other browsers.
If you use Chrome on Android with any Meta apps installed, you may have been affected.
DuckDuckGo blocks this tracking by default. (1/5)
This highlights the lengths that data-hungry companies will go to in order to harvest user data, which is why it is important to use a browser that actively blocks these types of threats.
Here's a handy browser comparison: https://t.co/hClTKGIoGy
Facebook/Instagram apps would silently listen on those ports, copy identifiers in real time, and link them to the user logged into the app, thereby allowing them to spy on your browsing habits, unchecked.
Meta was basically misusing protocols by having it's tracking scripts (embedded on a huge percentage of websites) blast out information about Chrome/other affected browser users' browsing history, along with unique identifiers to local ports on Android.
Meta was just caught red-handed using a new tracking technique on Android to covertly spy on people's browsing history, even when in Incognito mode.
DuckDuckGo browser users were not affected, since we block Facebook/Meta trackers to start with.

@BuggeErik Yes. The cookie pop-up management functionality chooses the decline/essential cookie option, independent of a website's partners. See https://t.co/DF20EfBnAl
People hate cookie pop-ups. In DuckDuckGo's browsers we automatically select the most private option for you and close them out. More privacy. Less annoyance.

NEWS: App Tracking Protection is now out of beta. 🚀
It's a free feature in the DuckDuckGo Android browser that helps block 3rd-party trackers in the apps on your phone (like Google snooping in your weather app).

The majority of Google search users don't actually actively pick Google. That choice is made for them by the default setting. Google is extremely skilled at making choice simple. This isn’t it. 🧵

@ErosSinema@DuckDuckGo DuckDuckGo employee here. Do you mind sending me a DM? I'd like to ask a few follow-up questions to get to the bottom of why some browsers aren't showing up in the import.
HTML bookmark import is coming soon.
