Every website should have a cmd+k.
I spend 99% of my time in docs, where this is standard, and now using normal site nav is just weirdly painful.
I’m not even sure people browse actual websites directly anymore, but for those who do.
we're calling this basic function calling
and the existence of basic function calling implies the existence of a more advanced function calling ... coming soon
One year, I was on a sports team with the tradition of parents bringing snacks for the kids.
There was a banana requirement, and almost every time the bananas were under or over ripe. It was a travesty, and absolutely embarrassing for these kids whose parents thought we could achieve peak performance with such downtrodden fruit.
But then, one week in the middle of the season, there was a ray of light. One mom brought dozens of perfectly ripe bananas. Such splendor that I feared a silverback might spontaneously appear and steal them from us. It was glorious and nobody cramped that day.
But the next week, we were back to some other parent and their typical underripe green garbage. You really gotta feel for the kid here. Parents are embarrassing enough growing up, nobody wants theirs to be seen lugging 15 lbs of “fruit” back into their full-size, compact minivan after a fierce competition.
You’ll never guess what happened next, though. The gods were looking down on us that season, and that week was our last bad bunch of bananas. The magical mom with the great bananas was back the next week, and every week following. And it was the same story each week: delicious bananas as far as the eye can see.
I had to know how she was doing it, so I asked. Turns out, she had some kinda spidey sense for the pace that bananas ripen. Before a weekend she was on banana duty, she’d send her husband to grocery stores starting Wednesday. He’d hit the local grocers first, FaceTiming her at each to display the goods, and try to get her nod of approval. Normally, 1 of the 3 shops had the right ripeness available. But if things went awry, Thursday was the big day. He’d travel to the outer ring of stores, scouring the produce aisles until the thumbs up came from mom.
I learned a lot about love and life from that story. Their teamwork was inspiring… it’s easy to think of that husband as some “sorry son-of-a-gun,” but I met him, too. He was equally proud to be Dole’ing out that prime potassium.
What really stuck with me, though, was their attention to detail on a task that so many others treated flippantly. As I see it today, that is the epitome of craft. Having role models like them growing up almost certainly made me a better founder, and I’m eternally grateful for their real-life demonstration of the dedication it takes to get the small things right.
And also for the bananas. They were great.
I'm beyond excited to announce the release of my second book, Serverless Apps on Cloudflare! 📚
For several years, I've been building applications on @Cloudflare's modern and innovative cloud developer platform. I was blown away by how simple and quick it was to develop applications, alongside how intuitive it all felt.
This book is a culmination of those years learning the platform, distilled into easily-digestible chapters covering the core aspects of the platform. You'll learn everything from building an API and full-stack applications, to databases, caches, using AI, queues and so much more.
By the end, you'll have a solid foundation that will allow you to build all kinds of applications with Cloudflare.
The @CloudflareDev team has been adding new products and features at a rapid rate, with all the key ingredients needed for almost any application.
It's all serverless, so you pay for what you use, with no servers or instances to maintain. It really comes into its own with how it all integrates together. Do you want to connect your compute to your database? It's a few lines of configuration, and your code is injected with what it needs at runtime by Cloudflare, with no need to maintain any sensitive credentials.
In my opinion, this is what the likes of AWS, Azure and GCP wish their platforms were like. Sure, they are more vast in the products they offer, but Cloudflare likely has all the essential products and features you need to build great products and services without all the hassle and complexity.
If you're interested in giving Cloudflare a try, and want a helping hand on the key aspects of their developer platform, you can get your hands on the early release version of the book right now via @pragprog: https://t.co/acUVUSTjvD

@zachk@Cloudflare Appreciate the feedback. We're on it - expect steady improvements over time, plus some big things on throughput in the works... Stay tuned 🎬
the cloudflare x baselime acquisition is crazy
no cloud provider has a detailed logs product that goes that hard on things like otel
if cloudflare starts to have that kind of thing baked in...i can see that being a huge deal
It's day three of @CloudflareDev Developer Week and finally time to share what I've been working on for the past few weeks!
Introducing Workflows
A thread 🧵

if i want to ship some js code that exposes some prebuilt http endpoints that people can deploy anywhere what would you use?
currently thinking about building on top of hono so people can run it inside lambda, cf, bun, node, etc
.@cloudflare is hiring a docs platform engineer to help us make our developer docs the best out there!
you enjoy using cloudflare pages / workers? building great frontend experiences? sweating lil details that make the difference?

For devtools, it’s easy to overlook the extent shipping is not just writing code.
The release notes. The docs. The help text. Error messages. Configuration. Integrations with other tools. Using it end-to-end to really make sure it works
Today, we're thrilled to announce that Stable Diffusion and Code Llama are now available as part of Workers AI, running in over 100 cities across Cloudflare’s global network. https://t.co/9ildBTgl14
Today we announced @MistralAI support on Workers AI! I recorded a quick side-by-side comparison with Llama 2.
tl;dr - similar to updating your system prompt, you should try different LLMs to see what gets you the responses you want.
we heard your feedback & shipped major improvements to workers ai:
‣ streaming of responses (both via Worker and REST); demo 👇
‣ new model: llama2 full precision 16bit variant
‣ higher context windows & sequence lengths for both 🦙s
