Politics apart, we cannot throw respect for elders out of the window on the altar of politics. It is highly disrespectful to look at a man like Peter Obi and call him an idiot.

Just because a man has put himself forward for participatory politics is not a licence to insult or demean him. Public office invites scrutiny, criticism, and even tough opposition, but it does not invite abuse.

You can disagree with his ideas, challenge his policies, question his competence, and criticise his politics. That is what democracy is about. But you cannot justify stripping him of the basic respect due to him as a human being and as an elder.

If we normalise this kind of language simply because of political differences, we shouldn't complain when the same disrespect is extended to leaders, elders, or even members of our own families.

Political discourse should be robust, not abusive. There is a clear line between criticism and outright disrespect, and we must not pretend we don't know where that line is.

You can disagree with him, but you cannot disrespect him.

Equating the parliamentary system of the UK to Nigeria’s presidential system is a catchy but fundamentally flawed argument.

In a parliamentary system, a Prime Minister answers directly to their party and legislature, while Nigeria operates under a constitutional presidential model with a fixed four-year executive tenure designed for long-term stability.

More importantly, True political accountability must look beyond sensational headlines and face the hard economic realities inherited by the current administration.

President Tinubu inherited an economy struggling under the weight of unsustainable subsidies, multiple exchange rates, declining oil output, and severe fiscal constraints. Resolving decades of systemic distortion was never going to be painless, but these difficult choices were non-negotiable for national survival.

While the administration openly acknowledges that citizens are enduring severe cost-of-living adjustments, the claim that "every sector has deteriorated" does not withstand factual scrutiny. Nigeria now enjoy a Strengthened Financial Markets and a Fiscal Stability Environment which have improved oil production, state revenues, foreign reserves, infrastructure projects, healthcare investments, and investor confidence.

The necessity of these reforms is further underscored by the very leaders managing local economies. Notably, Professor Charles Soludo, the current Governor of Anambra State [the exact state Peter Obi once governed] has repeatedly and publicly eulogized President Tinubu's economic policies.

As a seasoned economist and former Central Bank Governor, Soludo has stated that the administration’s audacious reforms rescued Nigeria’s public finances from the brink of collapse and gave the economy room to breathe again. He noted that true leadership is about visionary, difficult choices that guarantee a resilient future, rather than chasing short-term popularity.

If, as you claim, every sector has collapsed and the economy is in its worst state ever, how do you explain the historic performance of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX)?

How do you explain the projected economic growth of 4.4% for 2026; highest in over a decade?

How do you explain the unprecedented increase in profits of several companies that used to declare losses before the President got elected in 2023?

How do you explain the massive increase in the allocations due to the three tiers of government?

How do you explain the increased daily oil production and our foreign reserves?

How do you explain the disappearance of the yearly ASUU strikes and the persistent fuel station queues?

Healthy democratic criticism is fair, but a balanced assessment requires dealing in holistic evidence, not a selective presentation of facts to arrive at a predetermined verdict.

We will continue to engage and clarify at all times to ensure there is no room for revisionism.
