Agrochemical giant Corteva is attempting a dangerous regulatory bait-and-switch in South Africa. A recent public notice loudly advertises an "Application for the Trial Release of genetically modified maize". But read the fine print... the company is actually applying for a "general release" into the environment.

Under SA’s GMO Act, a trial requires strict containment and post-harvest destruction. A general release permanently enters the organism into the open environment. By titling a general release as a "trial", this filing fundamentally misleads the public and dilutes the necessary scrutiny for open-field biosecurity.

The regulatory contradictions are glaring. The notice claims the TC1507 $\times$ NK603 maize is "not intended to be available commercially in South Africa". Yet, it requests authorization to plant the crop in "commercial maize growing sites" for seed production, risking cross-pollination with neighboring non-GMO farms.

This specific GMO stack introduces proteins for tolerance to both glufosinate-ammonium and glyphosate herbicides. Approving this promotes dual chemical spraying, risking severe environmental contamination and accelerated weed resistance, all while sidestepping a transparent public safety debate.

The notice is deliberately buried in dense jargon like "biolistic transformation" and "plasmid PHP8999". Corteva gives the public a narrow window of just 30 days to submit technical objections, effectively shutting everyday farmers and civil society out of informed participation. We need immediate regulatory intervention.

The @SundayTimesZA revelation confirms exactly what we’ve been warning about... the crisis at UCT is a manufactured, bad-faith hit job. A former staffer demanding a probe after discovering her name was used in a 'fake' complaint against VC Prof Mosa Moshabela exposes the corruption of this process.

We already knew from the leaked Council letter that 33 of the 34 complaints funneled through the UCT Ombud were fabricated. Now, we are seeing the manipulation at play... real staff members are having their identities hijacked without consent to build a fraudulent, weaponised dossier against a principled Vice-Chancellor.

This entirely collapses the @UCT_news Council’s defence. Council Chair Norman Arendse hid behind the "confidentiality" of the Ombud’s office to deny the VC access to the report. We now know they weren't protecting vulnerable whistleblowers, they're protecting a compromised administrative pipeline designed to legitimize a predetermined executive purge.

You can't understand this outside the context of geopolitical lawfare. When VC Moshabela reported the R250 million donor strike led by pro-Israel foundations retaliating against UCT’s anti-genocide stance, a captured Council faction decided to hound him out. When financial coercion wasn't enough, they resorted to phantom grievances.

History teaches us that when imperial capital fails to buy obedience, it manufactures internal chaos. Just as the courts recently struck down irrational executive overreach at NSFAS, UCT Council's breaches of PAJA will not survive legal scrutiny. We will not allow Zionist law-fare to destabilise our institutions.
