Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakango and 10 others are set to face charges including conspiracy to defraud, operating an unlicensed Sacco, forgery, and uttering a false document.

The arrest in Mombasa follows a 2016 complaint, predating Nyakango's tenure as CoB.

The charges were approved by the DPP on November 30, and Nyakango was trailed and arrested during a public event.

Efforts to apprehend the others are ongoing.

Nyakango, in office since June 2020, has been vocal about fiscal concerns, warning of potential challenges due to a weakening shilling and increased public debt.
