In Budapest, a rock has resurfaced in the Danube.

It's called the Rock of Starvation - Ínség-szikla. For centuries, its return has meant one thing: the river is so low the mills fall silent, crops fail, and hunger follows.

It surfaced in 1616. In 1718. In 1811, 1830, 1842, 1868. In 1947.

And now it's back, in 2026.

For the first time in 44 years, Hungary has shut down all but one of its Danube-cooled nuclear reactors.

A nearby farmer puts it plainly: "I've lost nearly 50% of my harvest, and it could hit 70%. Since I started farming after the end of communist rule, I've never seen a catastrophe like this."

The rock is a warning.

It's been delivering it for 400 years.

We know exactly what it says, but we haven't been listening.

Hungary is facing an imminent energy crisis, with the shutdown of its Nuclear Power Plant supplying HALF! of the countries electricity, due to low water levels in the Danube river required for cooling.

Hungary is deliberately sinking two barges in the Danube to raise water levels and keep its drought-hit Paks nuclear plant operating.

The emergency operation comes as record-low river levels have cut the plant to around a quarter of its capacity.
