I was meant to make a very different post tonight.

For weeks we've been in conversations with partners I'd have loved to tell you about. Big big names on all fronts. The announcements were written and ready. But they'll have to wait.

This morning we got word from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, on direction from the Prime Minister himself: with the tragedy in Nepal still unfolding and the toll rising by the day, all Everest expeditions and activities are cancelled and postponed to next season, April 2027.

I won't pretend my feelings are simple. The last week has been nonstop in Nepal, meetings back and forth, months of preparation finally coming together, and now none of it happens. That's hard to swallow and I'd be lying if I said otherwise. But it's nothing next to what families across the border region are living through right now. Over 1000 people gone. 1000s still missing. We'd trade every permit we'll ever hold to undo that.

So here's what we're doing instead.

We're donating all funds from the treasury collected in the last two weeks of campaigning to the relief initiative Nima Rinji Sherpa is leading, and we're asking our community to give alongside us.

We've been told we'll be the first team granted a permit when the mountain reopens. For now, we wait.

And we sit with an uncomfortable truth. We tell people Pemba is built for search and rescue. Disaster hit valleys we know and love, and Pemba couldn't help a single person. We have six months to close that gap, and our roadmap has never been clearer.
