A bit about me.
I'm a Father and Husband first.
I also head up Operations and GTM for an importing business and oversee an online jewellery company.
My personal mission and side quest is to promote positive productivity.
In our weekly life admin sync last night, my wife and I had a realisation.
Our morning routine was broken and needed to change.
Mornings were chaotic—trying to get the kids out the door, stressed, with no playtime for anyone.
The realisation: we need to prep the night before, sacrificing a bit of our free time to make mornings smoother and more enjoyable for the family.
It’s tough to give up the little time you have to yourself as a parent, but the benefit for the family will be 10x worth it.
University of California Study on Interruptions (2008):
Interruptions during work obviously slow you down, but did you know it takes an average of 23 minutes to fully refocus after each one?!?!
The impact is so severe that eliminating distractions should be a top priority for productivity.
@balanceforge Yeah, we found that we were becoming passing ships in the night.
We both play competitive sport, so are training or playing in the evenings.
If we don’t ring-fence and protect time then we find ourselves out of sync and too many to-do’s open.
Schaufeli (2022) on Work Engagement:
Engaging leadership increased employee engagement by 25%.
By connecting with your team and fulfilling their psychological needs, you create a more motivated and productive workforce.
Energy, not just time, is a critical factor in productivity.
Schedule important tasks when you have the most energy.
This is typically the same time every day.
Lean into your Biological Prime Time and watch your productivity soar.
University of Michigan Study on Nature and Focus (2008):
Findings showed that exposure to nature, whether walking in a park or viewing nature photos, can improve memory and attention spans by 20%.
Need a productivity boost? Step outside or surround yourself with green spaces!
Start your day by identifying your three key tasks.
Write them down and have them in constant eyesight, I use a Post It note on my display.
It ensures you prioritise correctly.
And as a bonus, if you only accomplish those, youll still feel productive.
A downside of being so focused on habits, productivity, and routines is that I struggle with flexibility - especially when plans change last minute.
It’s something I’m actively working on, but I think it’s tied to my passion, and I don’t want to lose that.
@balanceforge Taking time and creating space always brings an unexpected ‘aha’ moment for me.
I try to create this space a couple of times a week on a dog walk, noise cancelling headphones on but not listening to anything.
