As communities recover from violent racists ruining their infrastructure and targeting powerless non-white people, it’s high time those keen on rebuilding get together and hold people’s assemblies to work together and improve community cohesion
A big thank you to all candidates who attended yesterdays hustings talking to constituents of Peckham and not forgetting the community who attended
Thank you
Farage's financial interests in Reform speak to a wider trend across right to far-right movements in which profit is the largest incentive to pedal conspiracies and hatred. Andrew Callaghan's film 'This Place Rules' finds the same with Alex Jones & Proud Boys
Have had some people on the street in Peckham ask if anyone is setting up an assembly in Lewisham and hope we could work together to build up more grassroots democracy in SE to combat profit-over-people developments like this

I will never stop banging on about the Lewisham Gateway development.
Prices are now available for the 500k for a one-bed flat. The land was gifted to the developers by Lewisham Council. They then gave the consortium of developers millions in grants from your ££.
Secondary legislation goes largely unnoticed by the general pop but is how govs increasingly pass laws with hardly any scrutiny. Thanks @IanDunt for writing about it in your book. Form a people's assembly to improve that scrutiny at the grassroots!

This is an important piece by Hannah White of the Institute for Government about why Tory warnings about the dangers of a huge Labour government are not as compelling as Rishi Sunak asserts. She points out that even with no majority at all Theresa May rode roughshod over parliamentary scrutiny and Boris Johnson routinely deprived MPs of votes on important questions https://t.co/NhZW0MXHZ7

Many of these demands came up in our first assembly's community manifesto. Our candidate Stefan runs workshops in London schools on harmful masculine norms, working to improve mental health, undo violence compassionately and value the voices of young people.

We asked our youth workers to put together a #Manifesto for young people across London. With real on-the-ground knowledge and experience of the lives young Londoners live, here’s what they had to say:
#ActionForYoungPeople#Election2024
Even school kids are angry enough to tear down pics of failed leaders. Join or start a community assembly to pressure the next gov to answer to grassroots decisions #peckham#ukpolitics#generalelection2024
Lab will bring small improvements but we're on track to another PM that dodges uneasy questions. Nearest to "plain-speaking" politicians is Farage but with anti-migrant hatred. Voice answers from communities through people's assemblies

“Had Labour won, would you have been happy to serve under Prime Minister Corbyn?”
“That’s a hypothetical…”
“It’s a simple question.”
Keir Starmer sidesteps questions on his history of support for Jeremy Corbyn eight times after being challenged by caller Graham.

@Keir_Starmer Communities should consider setting up people’s assemblies to pressure Labour to work in the interests of grassroots communities and services, rather than same old austerity and siphoning off services to private corps for shareholder profits
@BBCNews Set up a people’s assembly in your area to apply pressure to the incoming government to enact community-focused policies and services. Less disillusionment among citizens will counter the appeal of scapegoating by far-right groups such as reform
@ACAPeckham@Miatsf@PeckhamVision Hope we can work together to apply effective pressure to the incoming MP and council to ensure that there is no more new unaffordable housing in Peckham (and anywhere at that!)
@AngelaRayner Set up a people’s assembly in your constituency to pressure incoming Labour MPs to properly represent grassroots decision-making at a national level
Labour stay quiet before more austerity. Centrists not meeting basic needs create a vacuum for far right as we just saw in the EU. People’s assemblies empower people at grassroots, combat disillusionment and counter far-right scapegoatism

Great to get out on a beautiful Monday and get more votes in for Rishi, Keir, or the potato (🥔 wins again!).
Next people’s assembly is this Sunday June 23rd at Peckham Library, 1-3pm. Come and strengthen community democracy!

Wishing the Muslim community of Southwark and everyone Eid Mubarak!
People’s assemblies make real change with input from all faith and cultural groups in a community
Next assembly Sun 23 Jun at Peckham Library

@rid9way How about the people’s assembly were looking to grow? Bringing local decision making back to the grassroots through facilitated community assemblies!
