“You're not alone in wanting a better world where cars are relegated to their proper use. Cars are tools that can be useful at certain times. They’re not gods. They’re not the foundation of our society. They should serve us. We shouldn't serve them. There can be life after cars.”
At the Asia Pacific Cycling Conference, Marne Fechner from @AusCycling said community is important to getting people cycling and the challenge is to encourage more diversity and to overcome the male, pale and stale perceptions of cycling.
“Over the course of a month, a cyclist or pedestrian will spend 40% more than a motorist. Improvements to the public realm that facilitate pedestrian or cyclist access can increase retail sales by as much as 30%.”

How can @qldhealth reduce health risks in cities and keep streets cooler? By maximising tree shade! This reduces exposure to UV radiation and heat glare. 🌴 Find out more: https://t.co/rS7tTypjEA
@CouncilLSC obstacles again today along the shared path at Matthew Flinders Drive. #Parking across the path & on the verge. @QueenslandWalks@bicycleqld we love quality connected infrastructure for active modes- let's keep it #safe & #inclusive for everyone.
It's our AGM and ESFFPN
Our first fun and short presentation is touching on facts!!! that everyone is a menance.... but actually when sharing space we can be incredibly considerate as riders and walkers.
@brisbanecityqld vehicles parked across the footpath on Kelvin Grove Road is becoming a serious barrier to safety of children walking to school and community mobility. An arterial road at 60km/h needs a safe comfortable accessible pathway always @QueenslandWalks
In contrast, at @BrisbaneAirport , Schiphol’s sister airport in Australia, they haven’t finished building the bike path along Lomandra Drive which was started in 2017. People on bikes have to ride with the trucks. Pedestrians have no where to walk. So much for being Dutch.
Walkable street? Little room left for people on an arterial road. Lack of good thinking, prioritising people needs and considering land use has led to the footpath doing lots of heavy lifting.. #movement#place#walking#qldwalksmonth what's your thoughts?
The annual City of London traffic survey conducted in November showed that cycles outnumber cars in the city. Interesting that bike traffic has also grown by 292% since 2019 and has continued to grow beyond the peak seen during the pandemic https://t.co/GJqtyt3r5J
@brisbanecityqld we need to be doing better with educating people on where they are permitted to park their vehicle. Footpaths are essential to a walkable neighbourhood and should be available 24/7. No excuse for poor parking hygiene. #walkingworld@QueenslandWalks
