Here’s a deeply uncomfortable truth about an art career online.
Your quality of art will not necessarily correlate to better sales and higher pricing.
Pricing for commissions can be influenced by online popularity of the artist, strange odd niche tastes, and just having the right connections to powerful people.
Online art success sadly isn’t the meritocracy it ideally should be. Art quality is just a small factor.
It’s why I would never encourage a career in art if your priority is making money
1. Find yourself in the things you love
2. Pay attention to what you see that others don't
3. Faith is not rational; the biggest decisions are instinctual
4. Make sure your intentions are driven by love
5. The path only opens as you walk through it
The pipeline of "oh i already know i want to be an artist of some sort when i grow up" ➡️ "oh god this field isn't sustainable i need a less creative job" ➡️ "oh my god im not passionate about literally anything how am i supposed to choose something fulfilling" is so real
